Qrion and Sasha have joined forces for a mesmerizing deep house track, “Dry & High,” out now by way of Last Night On Earth. “Dry & High” immediately jumps into action with a smooth four-on-the-floor groove. It’s not long before wispy vocal samples and sharp percussive elements quickly come into focus, illuminating the higher frequencies. Qrion and Sasha have certainly left no room for second guesses. Qrion and Sasha released two versions of the track: the full, eight-minute-plus version and a three-and-a-half minute edit. You can listen to both below. The Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl Halftime Show have a few things in common. Both, of course, have been fixtures on network television for decades, but neither has even won the top Emmy Award for variety programming — an award currently called outstanding variety special (live). Both shows are nominated in that category again this year. Will one of these shows finally prevail this year? Quite possibly. Each received five Emmy nominations this year, which is more than the other three nominees in this category — The Oscars (which received three nods), The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! (which received two) and Live In Front Of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes (which also received two). The Grammys became a live telecast in March 1971, but they assumed a hi...
In an effort to prevent potentially disturbing or “overtly mature” material from reaching users under the age of 18, TikTok will begin adding content scores to videos as part of a new feature meant to emulate ratings used in the film, TV and gaming industries. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news According to a blog post shared on Wednesday, TikTok will begin rolling out an early version of the feature in coming weeks and place a “post unavailable” message to block out videos that are age restricted. To determine which videos fall into that restricted category, TikTok will assign a “maturity score” based on the video’s “thematic maturity” levels. “When we detect that a video contains mature or complex themes, for example, fictional scenes th...
R. Kelly has been returned to the federal jail in downtown Chicago ahead of his trial on child pornography and obstruction-of-justice charges, just two weeks after the disgraced R&B star was sentenced in New York to 30 years in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking. The 55-year-old Kelly was transferred Tuesday from the federal jail in Brooklyn to the Metropolitan Correctional Center, the Chicago Tribune reported. He was also held at the Chicago lockup after he was indicted on federal charges in Chicago and New York in 2019. Jury selection for his federal trial in Chicago is set to begin Aug. 15. Macklemore’s long-rumored collaboration with Tones And I is apparently in the can, and we now know what it sounds like. The Grammy-winning rapper shared a snippet on social media, with the music man looking particularly pleased with himself as he tested the cut on his car’s sound system. “Can you guess who’s singing on the hook,” he writes. It is, of course, Toni Watson, better known as Tones And I, who can be heard singing “I’m on fire,” and pumping up the song with the empowering line, “You can’t take my voice from me. A judge has rejected Amber Heard’s motion for a new trial, ruling that a mix-up between a 52-year-old man and his 77-year-old father did not constitute jury fraud. The jury awarded Johnny Depp $10.35 million in his defamation lawsuit, and Heard has not yet filed an appeal, possibly because Judge Penny Azcarate ordered her to pay an $8.3 million bond before any appeal could go forward. Instead, she’s focused her legal efforts on this father and son. While the identities of the two men have been redacted, they live together, and publicly available information suggests that they also share a name, although it’s unknown if one is a “Jr.” or “II.” But the 77-year-old was summoned for jury duty, and instead the 52-year-old showed up, ultimately getting enrolled on the jury. Heard’s leg...
Baltimore trio Pinkshift have at last announced their debut album: Love Me Forever is out on October 21st via Hopeless Records, and to accompany the news, the punk band have shared the single “i’m not crying, you’re crying.” Recorded with punk rock studio vet Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy, The Wonder Years), Love Me Forever is billed as a “no-holds-barred reflection of the state of the world today.” Through fiery riffs, pointed lyrics, and the infectious spunk of lead singer Ashrita Kumar, Pinkshift make music that demands to be heard — but, perhaps most importantly, they’re creating a space where fellow people of color in the scene might be inspired to do the same. Pre-orders for physical copies of Love Me Forever are ongoing. “i’m not crying, you’re crying...
