DOWN guitarist Kirk Windstein has confirmed to “The Rock Savages” podcast that the band’s next release will be an EP of cover songs. “‘Cause we like fucking around with different stuff, and we’re influenced by so many different styles,” he said (hear audio below). “We’ve just gotta agree on six songs to do. We don’t wanna do the obvious shit — we don’t wanna do [BLACK] SABBATH and stuff like that — so we’re trying to find some obscure stuff that fits our style.” Asked if some tracks have already been agreed upon, Kirk said: “Yes and no. The more we talk about it, the more it changes. So there’s, like, 30 songs that have been mentioned. So, we’ll see. But I’m looking forward to working on t...

HELLFEST Organizers Comment On 2021 Festival Cancelation

This year’s edition of Hellfest has been officially canceled after the French government culture ministry said summer events would be allowed to go ahead — but with a limit of 5,000 people, all whom must remain seated, to meet COVID-19 restrictions. The Union of Contemporary Music (SMA), which represents festivals, concert venues and producers, said late Thursday that the figure had been agreed at a meeting with culture minister Roselyne Bachelot. Hellfest, which drew 180,000 people in 2019, generally features a lineup which is 90 percent made up of international acts and 20 percent of spectators coming from abroad. As a result, organizers felt they had little choice but to call off this year’s event. On Friday (February 19), Hellfest released the following statement via social...

Kate Hudson Calls Criticism of Sia’s ‘Music’ an ‘Important Dialogue’

“I think when people see the film, they will see the amount of love and sensitivity that was put into it,” Hudson told Kimmel. Sia’s decision to cast Maddie Ziegler as a nonverbal character with autism, as opposed to a performer on the autism spectrum, caused major backlash. Telling Kimmel she welcomed the larger conversation, Hudson noted that she felt “terrible” that some people felt left out over the casting and portrayal of Ziegler’s character. “The spectrum is so wide and should be approached with far more conversation and understanding of how can we be more representative, what are the best ways to do that,” the actress told Kimmel. “We want to tell the best stories we can. There is no one who wants to upset anybody. When people f...

I scream it at the top of my lungs” — and Folklore‘s “Betty.” Rodrigo opened up about her love of Lorde’s “A World Alone,” from Pure Heroine: “It was the first record that I remember listening to and being like, ‘...

The Concert Business vs. COVID-19: The Road to a 2021 Recovery

The global concert industry has historically been a very healthy business. Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, every major indicator showed that touring was on pace to set a record in terms of economic activity. For instance, a 2019 report titled The Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2019–2023—commissioned by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)—noted that live music ticket sales would increase at a compound annual growth rate of 3.33% from 2018 to 2023, from $21.256 billion in 2018 to $25.036 billion in 2023. These estimated figures became even more realistic after the 2019 touring year closed out with historic ticket movement and gross earnings across a variety of arena tours. According to Billboard’s 2019 Boxscore charts, the best performing tour of 2019 was E...

Apple Music Tests Lyric Sharing Features in iOS 14.5 Beta

Continuing his path to global influence, Marshmello has just released his first Persian-language spoken single, “Lavandia.” Mello joined forces with Iranian artist and Persia’s Got Talent TV star Arash to make it happen.  On the production side, Marshmello perfectly curated the track’s arrangement to include Persian-inspired synths derived from authentic strings and flutes native to the region. Listeners will quickly glean that “Lavandia” remains true to Marshmello’s dance music roots at heart, given the steady, cascading current of driving kicks and tongue drum-driven percussion. TESLA’s BRIAN WHEAT Doesn’t Know Why Ex-Guitarist TOMMY SKEOCH Singled Him Out As ‘His Target’

TESLA bassist Brian Wheat, who is promoting his recently released autobiography, “Son Of A Milkman: My Crazy Life With Tesla”, spoke to “The Chuck Shute Podcast” about his relationship with the band’s former guitarist Tommy Skeoch. “Look, we’re not gonna be friends,” Brian said (hear audio below). “He’s not gonna call me and say, ‘Hey, how’re you doing?’ and I’m not gonna call him and say, ‘Hey, how’re you doing?’ The one thing we had in common was TESLA, and he’s not been in TESLA for 16 years now. If I saw him on the street, I’d probably say hello and ask him how he was. And who knows how he would react? He might tell me to go fuck myself. And then who knows what would happen...
