Name Pat Metheny. Best known for Musician. Current city New York City. Really want to be in Any place at all is fine with me…just glad to be here. Excited about Learning more about music. I feel like in the last few years I have started to make a new kind of progress. My current music collection has a lot of Music that has good notes with equal amounts of soul, spirit and creativity. And a little bit of Music with maybe not quite as many good notes, but lots of enthusiasm. Don’t judge me for I stand proudly with music and musicians. Preferred Format I have had a radio station from outer space blasting into my head since I was five or so, so that is m...

Robert Randolph’s Unityfest Amps Up the Party and Importance of Juneteenth

It’s taken generations for Juneteenth to become the kind of holiday that Black Americans feel comfortable getting loud about. For pedal steel guitar prophet Robert Randolph, it wasn’t until his mid-30s that he learned the history behind the holiday commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865. But his passion to amplify the celebration in the wake of an explosive year of Black protests, pride and unity couldn’t have come at a better time. This Saturday, The Robert Randolph Foundation launches the inaugural Juneteenth Unityfest, a multi-city livestreamed event featuring a swath of iconic and influential Black artists, activists and guest speakers of all backgrounds to celebrate the historic holiday in style.  “What drove me to put together Juneteenth Unityf...

Modest Mouse Share New Single ‘The Sun Hasn’t Left’

Modest Mouse’s new album is out next week. So far we’ve heard  “We Are Between” and “Leave a Light On” from The Golden Casket and today, they unveiled what should be the last song before the album’s released with “The Sun Hasn’t Left.” “The Sun Hasn’t Left” makes creative use of new wave beats, similarly to the other two singles. It sounds as if this tune even utilizes a xylophone. The bouncy instrument is fitting to the hopeful message this single offers with lyrics like: “You’re not wrong, things are a mess but there’s still something left.” Listen to “The Sun Hasn’t Left” below. [embedded content] In conjunction with Modest Mouse’s last single announcement, they released dates for a pretty lengthy US tour, joined by special guests Future Islands for a handful of...

SNL Alums Recall Bill Murray and Chevy Chase Brawling in John Belushi’s Dressing Room

This will come as a surprise to no one, but Bill Murray and Chevy Chase didn’t always get along. The low point, as Saturday Night Live alums Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman recalled in a new interview, occurred when the two prickly personalities came to blows in John Belushi’s dressing room right before a show. Curtin and Newman rehashed the 1978 scuffle on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I think Jane and I — and Gilda [Radner] — both witnessed it,” Newman said. “It was very sad and painful and awful.” Reports have varied over the years as to the cause. Some allege the fight began after Murray made a joke about Chase’s deteriorating marriage with Jacqueline Carlin, after which Chase replied with a quip about Murray’s looks. In conversation with Howard Stern, Chase s...

Composer Dan Romer on How a ’90s Weezer Song Inspired His Emotional Score For Pixar’s Luca

At its heart, Pixar’s latest, Luca, is a film about adventure: the fear and thrill of stepping outside of your comfort zone, throwing caution to the wind, and experiencing the world outside your door. In the case of the film’s titular sea creature (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) that adventure comes from an unforgettable summer spent with a rambunctious fellow sea monster named Alberto (voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer) in the sleepy Italian seaside town of Portorosso. Together, the two trade their fins for legs, learn to fit in with the rest of the island’s colorful characters, and dream of freedom and possibility — and owning a Vespa. Fitting, then, that director Enrico Cosarosa would tap one of contemporary film music’s most adventurous composers, Dan Romer, to provide the score for Luc...

Other supporting actors include Jason Derulo, Jay Pharaoh, Jason Isaacs, Peyton List, and Alex Gaskarth. A film like this requires a top-tier soundtrack, and this is already shaping up to be a good one. The Spinning Gold cast will r...

Heavy Culture: Palaceburn Singer Meredith Bell and Hyro the Hero on Juneteenth and Being Black in America

Heavy Culture is a monthly column from journalist Liz Ramanand, focusing on artists of different cultural backgrounds in heavy music, as they offer their perspectives on race, society, and more as it intersects with and affects their craft. The latest installment of this column features Palaceburn singer Meredith Bell and Hyro the Hero and focuses on Juneteenth and other topics. Juneteenth has just been declared a federal holiday in the United States by the Biden administration. The day, marked on June 19th, commemorates the end of slavery as the date the last remaining slaves in Texas learned of their freedom in 1865, two years after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Philadelphia-based Palaceburn began their music journey with their EPs The Awakening in 2013 and Curs...

First Stream: New Music From H.E.R., Tyler, The Creator, DaBaby and More

Last Juneteenth, H.E.R. released “I Can’t Breathe,” a searing reaction to the killing of George Floyd and police brutality that inspired protests around the world; this year — with a song of the year Grammy award for “I Can’t Breathe,” and an Academy Award for “Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah, in her back pocket — the R&B star gives us an engrossing new album. Back of My Mind is far from a victory lap after a successful awards-show run: if anything, the project allows the singer-songwriter to explore new terrain as a collaborator (Lil Baby, Cordae and Ty Dolla $ign all pop by) as well as a vocalist, particularly on ballads like the yearning “My Own” and the wounded “Mean It.” Tyler, The Creator, “Lumberjack”  Ahead of the release of his next album, Call...

First Spin: The Week’s Best New Dance Tracks From TSHA, Jax Jones, NERVO & More

Fresh voices are hard to find, but London newcomer TSHA is as bright and unique as they come. The young producer made waves with her 2018 debut and was soon scooped up by Ninja Tune and Counter Records. In October 2019 she graced Billboard Dance‘s emerging artists roundup. And just six months ago, she gifted listeners a blossoming bunch of tracks on the Flowers EP, but she’s already back with a new EP announcement and a lead single that’s perfectly set for summer fun. “OnlyL” is a subtle sunshine serenade, brimming with breezy melodies and hip-jerking electronic rhythms. Vocal duo Nimmo serve hypnotic melodies with a delightful echo-delay hook. It’s as calm and soothing a track as it is invigorating and free, an exciting first taste of the upcoming OnlyL EP, due for release Aug....

DaBaby Goes Back to High School in Rowdy ‘Ball If I Want To’ Video: Watch

The raunchy “Ball If I Want To,” produced by D.A. Got That Dope, is DaBaby’s second new song of this year following “Masterpiece.” The rapper has been hard at work in recent months, appearing on songs by Yo Gotti (“Drop”), DJ Khaled (“I Did It”), and Polo G (“Party Lyfe”). In May, DaBaby won the top rap song award for “Rockstar” at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The single, featuring Roddy Ricch, spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “It’s nothing short of a blessing,” Baby said during his acceptance speech. “If y’all don’t press play, the music don’t get heard.” DaBaby, who has seven nominations at the 2021 BET Awards, putting him in a tie with Meg...
