SportsLens experts give their Cheltenham Friday tips for the opening day of the November Meeting. This Friday, 12 November, sees Prestbury Park takes centre stage as the track’s second most important meeting after the Festival begins. Read all about who our tipsters fancy on this six-race card below… Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (1:10) A handicap in name only with just 7lb separating the top and bottom weights. Conditionals can use their claims if riding for their own stable. The eye is drawn towards two form horses towards the top of the handicap. An Tailliur has made remarkable progress for Jonjo O’Neill, winning five races on the spin. Many of the horses that the five-year-old Authorized gelding has beaten seem to come out and win themselves. An Tailliur is 11/2 with Willia...
The Grade 2 Shloer Chase over 2m is the feature race on the third and final day of Cheltenham’s November Meeting on Sunday, 14 November (2:20). Four previous course and distance winners should run in this year’s renewal, so it promises to be a cracker. See who SportsLens experts fancy in this detailed race preview. All bar one of the six initial entries haven’t had a run but that’s no problem. Nine of the 12 past Shloer Chase winners landed the spoils on their reappearance. Eight successful horses since the race was introduced in 2009 have aged six, seven or eight. This event is for equine athletes in their prime, then. Favourites have a 50 per cent success rate in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham, so backing the market leader on horse racing betting sites could be the way to go. Nine of the...
The 2m Unibet Morgiana Hurdle is the first Grade 1 over the smaller obstacles of the jumps season in Ireland at Punchestown on Sunday, 14 November (2:05). It’s a race that master trainer Willie Mullins boasts a phenomenal record in. Nine of the last 10 Morgiana Hurdle winners came from his Closutton stables. Half of the last dozen victors were favourites too, so siding with the market leader has its upside here. Eight of the previous 12 winners landed the spoils on reappearance. Only the top 2m hurdlers in Ireland are usually good enough to win this. All of the last 12 successful horses had an official rating of 155 or higher. That rules out a few of the runners from the penultimate declaration stage, but if only it was as simple as that… Why Echoes In Rain has the shortest Morgiana Hurdle...
Aston Villa are currently without a manager after they sacked Dean Smith from his position last week. Smith was dismissed last Sunday after the Lions’ 1-0 defeat against Southampton. That was their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat under the English boss, which left them just two points above the relegation zone. The Birmingham based side lost Jack Grealish to Manchester City in the summer but they also managed to bring in Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings. They made a good start to the 2021-22 season, claiming victories over Everton and Manchester United. But following their win at Old Trafford, their form dropped off dramatically as the Lions lost all their subsequent five matches in the top-flight. Smith was relieved of his duties at Villa...

Newcastle United have appointed Eddie Howe as their new manager and the Magpies are now looking to strengthen their squad when the transfer window reopens in January. The Premier League side are currently 19th in the league table and they will be desperate to beat the drop this season. Howe will be expected to transform Newcastle’s fortunes in the coming weeks but the 43-year-old will need help from the club hierarchy. The squad is in desperate need of reinforcements. Newcastle must look to improve their squad during the January transfer window and Howe is apparently looking to sign the England international defender Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. The 31-year-old right-back was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window with Manchester United ti...
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen. According to a report from the Mirror, the Reds are keen on signing the 24-year-old but they are unlikely to make a move during the January transfer window. The winger was linked with a move to Anfield during the summer transfer window as well and Jurgen Klopp has recently admitted his admiration for the former Hull City winger. The German recently said: “I like Bowen a lot. He made his way up from Hull and took not too long to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League. He made big steps.” Bowen has certainly developed into one of the most efficient attackers in the Premier League since his move from Hull and he put on a splendid performance against Liverpool on Sunday. The West Ham w...
Sevilla defender Jules Kounde was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window but the Spanish outfit refused to sell the player in the end. According to AS, Manchester United could now make a move for the talented young Frenchman. Kounde is undoubtedly one of the most talented young defenders around Europe right now and the 22-year-old could prove to be a sensational addition for the Red Devils. Manchester United already signed her Raphael Varane earlier on this season to improve their back four and the arrival of Kounde will improve them further. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to find upgrades on the likes of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof. Furthermore, Harry Maguire has not been at his best this season either. Kounde would be an upgrade on all three players. ...
In Monday’s NBA game, the Denver Nuggets faced off against the Miami Heat in a home game. With just 2:39 left in the final quarter, the Nuggets were approaching a 113-96 win against the Heat, however, in a run-in with Markeiff Morris, the reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic ended up in a scuffle that led to the ejection of both players. The situation saw Morris foul Jokic as he pulled up for a three. As Morris turns his back away him, Jokic pushes him into the ground as retaliation. After the game, LA Clippers Marcus Morris and Markieff’s twin took to Twitter to chime in about what happened. Marcus wrote, “Waited till bro turned his back smh. NOTE,” which instigated a heated exchange between himself and the Jokic brothers. Jokic’s brothers Strahinja and Nemanja then created their own Twitter acc...
Scottie Pippen continues to question Michael Jordan‘s NBA success. This time, Pippen is discrediting Jordan’s memorable 19977 NBA Finals “Flu Game.” In a recent SiriusXM interview, former Chicago Bulls continued to question Michael Jordan’s commitment to playing. When Pippen was asked about playing with a back injury during the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz, he took the opportunity to share that he probably would not have played if the series went to Game 7 because of a herniated disc. That year, the Bulls won the series in six games. The conversation later segued into Jordan’s flu game, to which Pippen directly compared his back issue, “I don’t see many bad back games, but I do see flu games. Flu. Come on.” Pippen continued to pick at Jordan’s “Flu Game” and explained that he was ...
Manchester United appointed Eddie Howe as their manager last week and the 43-year-old will be expected to turn things around at St James’ Park over the next few weeks. The Magpies are currently in the relegation zone and they will need to improve massively in order to stay in the Premier League next season. Howe did an impressive job with Bournemouth in the Premier League but he will need the backing of the owners in the transfer market in order to transform the side. Newcastle are in desperate need of reinforcements right now. The squad is lacking in depth and quality especially in the defence and midfield. Howe must look to bring in a top-class centre back when the transfer window re-opens and a goalscoring midfielder should be a top priority as well. Here a...
