LG To Unveil Two New Curved Display Concepts at CES 2022

LG Display will unveil two flexible OLED concepts at CES 2022, the world’s largest IT and home electronics show. The first design, dubbed the “Virtual Ride,” includes a stationary bike and three vertical 55-inch OLED displays that connect as one continuous screen that spans from below and above the rider. The highest display boasts a 500R curvature radius, which is the most extreme curve to exist for a large screen, according to the company. The second design, named the “Media Chair,” features a recliner with an attached 55-inch OLED TV. Equipped with a 1,500R curvature, the display arrives with the company’s Cinematic Sound OLED technology, which allows the device to produce sound without external speakers. Additionally, an armrest touchscreen control panel allows the user to switch betwe...

Tesla owner blows up Model S instead of footing $22,600 repair bill

When faced with a repair bill that costs half of what you paid for your car, do you go through with the expensive repair, bring it to the junkyard, or sell it for parts? Finnish Tesla owner Tuomas Katainen decided to do something a little more extreme — but arguably a lot more satisfying — when faced with such a situation: he watched his car go up in flames, as noted in a report from Gizmodo. Katainen handed his 2013 Tesla Model S over to Pommijätkät, a group of explosion experts on YouTube who loves to make things go “boom,” after he was quoted $22,600 for a battery replacement. “Well when I bought that Tesla, the first 1,500km [932 miles] were nice,” Katainen recounted. “Then, error codes hit.” After Katainen brought his Tesla to a mechanic, he found out that the only way to fix the car ...

8 great games for your new 2021 Xbox

The latest generation of Xbox consoles recently celebrated their one-year birthday, though like the PS5, your chances of easily buying one aren’t so great (the $300 Series S is far easier to find in stock than the $500 Series X is). Nevertheless, there have been some must-play games released on Xbox in the past year that make searching for one of these consoles worth the effort. We’ve pulled together a handful of great games. Thankfully, many of them are available through a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. That gives you access to online multiplayer, along with access to a library of games for a flat monthly fee. Of course, you can still purchase these games piecemeal, but unless you’re a collector, there’s little reason to not go the Game Pass route and use a monthly subscription to acces...

Today I learned that the Death Star is the size of the Olympic Peninsula

Park My Spaceship is the simple, extremely amusing app I didn’t know I needed. It allows you to superimpose to-scale images of notable spacecraft from sci-fi shows and movies over Google Maps. That’s it. It’s great. You can check to see if Serenity would fit in your backyard or if the Millennium Falcon could land in your neighborhood park. It’s been around since 2018, but I first encountered it this week when @CincinnatiPhil TILearned about it and shared his discoveries on Twitter. I set about placing ships around the greater Seattle area and found that the Millennium Falcon fits nicely in the fountain plaza in front of the Space Needle, which would look cool as hell. You can almost fit a Star Destroyer in Lake Union or park it on Harbor Island, a tiny landmass made entirely of dirt remove...

NASA Successfully Launches Innovative Webb Space Telescope

NASA successfully launched its revolutionary James Webb Space Telescope this morning at 7:20 a.m. EST/4:20 a.m. PST. The telescope took off from an Ariane 5 rocket located at Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. A joint effort with the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency, the Webb mission marks “the world’s largest and most complex space science observatory,” NASA said. Over the next 29 days, the telescope will reshape and transform itself over the course of its journey until it settles at its final destination approximately one million miles from Earth. After six months, the telescope will deliver its first images of space. The telescope will allow scientists to explore cosmic history both within our solar system and in distant galaxies, yielding more information about cos...

From DeFi year to decade: Is mass adoption here? Experts Answer, Part 3

Tristan is the core contributor to Zeta Markets, an under-collateralized DeFi derivatives platform, providing liquid derivatives trading to individuals and institutions alike. “We’ve seen a Cambrian explosion in the DeFi ecosystem in 2021, with peak TVL approaching $300 billion vs the 2020 peak of $21 billion. This sounds like the growth surely has to slow. Yet, DeFi still represents just a fraction of CeFi trading volumes. At Zeta, we see a clear opportunity for more and more CeFi infrastructure to be built on-chain in a permissionless manner. This will unlock innovative products that have previously been impossible to implement. The following has already started to happen: Composability trumps the siloed products of CeFi, which has created really powerful network effe...

NASA’s revolutionary James Webb Space Telescope successfully launches to space

Early Christmas morning, NASA’s revolutionary new space observatory, the James Webb Space Telescope, successfully launched into space after taking off on top of a European Ariane 5 rocket from South America. The launch marks the beginning of one of the most anticipated NASA missions in decades, a program that promises to transform how we study the deepest depths of the Universe. “From a tropical rainforest to the edge of time itself, James Webb begins a voyage back to the birth of the Universe,” Rob Navias, NASA’s announcer on the agency’s livestream, said at liftoff. Though the initial trip to space may have been successful, there’s still a risky journey ahead for the James Webb Space Telescope, also known as JWST. Over the next month, the spacecraft will be journeying out to its final lo...

The global version of Steam appears to be banned in China

Steam Global seems to have been banned in China, according to a report from TheGamer. Only the Chinese version of Steam remains accessible in the country, which currently offers a limited library of just 103 games — a very small fraction of the over 110,000 games that Steam Global has at this time of writing. Reliable Fortnite leaker and data miner Ricky Owens (aka iFireMonkey) first noticed the ban and tweeted out a screenshot of what appears to be Steam on a list of blocked websites in China. We tried to verify this for ourselves using Comparitech’s tool that checks whether a site is blocked in China. Upon entering “store.steampowered.com,” into the site, the tool indicates that Steam has been blocked in all parts of the country — as for “store.steamchina.com,” however, the tool says the...
