So This Is How Fashion Girls Will Be Wearing Denim in 2020

Given the fact we wear denim just about every day of the week, we’re constantly looking for new and fresh ways to channel fashion’s favourite fabric. So ahead of the New Year, we already find ourselves consulting spring/summer 2020 runway imagery from all the major cities to see just how we should be wearing our denim as we enter the next decade.

What we’ve found is that the everyday staple had a huge presence on the runways, with just about every big name putting their own spin on it. And while we have zero intent on casting aside our straight-leg jeans or classic denim jackets, we are certainly going to be investing in the pieces set to take 2020 by storm, too.

From Chanel’s foray with denim Bermuda shorts (yes, really) to the new jean detail that’s set to pick up where raw hems left off, scroll below as we share some of the biggest denim trends 2020 has in store. Plus, you can shop the looks before everyone else.

While 2019 was dominated by the denim boiler suit, 2020 is instead setting its sights on classic dungarees in vintage-style washes. The key is to opt for oversized silhouettes or size up to harness their relaxed appeal.

Much like shoulder bags and camisoles, another piece of ’90s fashion iconography is set to return to our wardrobes in 2020. Celine went gung-ho with its bootcut jean offering on the catwalk, so, naturally, we’re expecting it to be the stand-out jean of the new decade.

Though they’ve taken a backseat over the past few seasons, the denim skirt is set to make a triumphant return in midi hemlines and a variety of washes. Wear with a tailored blazer like the models at Stella McCartney for a cool high/low balance.

Having been given the runway seal of approval by Chanel, we’re expecting to see denim Bermuda shorts take over the style scene. Wear them with chic ballet pumps and Breton stripes to harness Chanel’s nautical feel.

Midi hemlines have reigned supreme for the last few years for the past few seasons, but the minidress looks set to make a major comeback in just about every imaginable way—including denim.

Next up, these eight shoe trends are set to take over in 2020.
