Calvin Harris is here to steal the summer before it even starts. “Vol. 2 is gonna be mad,” Harris tweeted coyly. But that was all fans needed to hear to get the message loud and clear—there will indeed be a successor to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. Harris’ last album arrived seemingly an eternity ago in the summer of 2017. A feature-heavy electronic album stylistically at the intersection of uplifting funk and hip-hop, the record continues to stand out as something of a black sheep in Harris’ broader discography. Nonetheless, it has aged incredibly well, and at the time of writing the album has cleared well over 2 billion streams on Spotify alone. It’s impossible to discuss Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 however without mentioning its star-power. Harris secured a d...
Alesso‘s latest effort is music for cleaning up Gotham City’s streets. In theaters this weekend, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, received a brooding new contribution from Alesso, aptly titled “DARK.” The Swedish superstar’s latest is an invigorating house track with the kind of eerily ominous atmosphere one might expect to encounter in the obscure alleyways home to DC Films’ famous night-crawling vigilante. Driving the groove is a punchy, triplet bassline marked by heavy distortion. The grungy synths set an energizing cadence capable of generating a generous rush of adrenaline. Recommended Articles At first glance it appears The Batman‘s filmmakers leaned heavily on dance music producers to help set the tone. In fact, th...
Time can’t heal a wound you choose to leave open. All over PAINLESS, the second album by Nilüfer Yanya, the London songwriter lingers in feelings of heartbreak, dislocation, and rejection, and refuses to let them go. “Don’t like whenever I’m not in pain/Peeling back, not noticing/The blood and bones beneath my skin,” she sings on “midnight sun,” one of several disquieting lyrics about doing herself harm or inviting whoever hurt her to go ahead and grind her heart underfoot while they’re at it. The sting proves that this thing was once alive, even if she has to dig her nails under the scab to still feel it. Yanya has always written such physical music. Her voice is a tender muscle; her songs have a sinewy twist, and her loud-quiet guitar can flood in as unexpectedly as cheeks flushing at th...
During a recent appearance on “Drinks With Johnny”, the Internet TV show hosted by AVENGED SEVENFOLD bassist Johnny Christ, former BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE bassist Jason “Jay” James opened up about his departure from the Welsh metal band more than seven years ago. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It is tough to talk about, to be honest, after all the little bits that happened. All I can say is everybody was partying, everybody was having a drink, and everybody liked to have a drink. “My real problem started with alcohol,” he continued. “I was a pretty big drinker. And I’ll hold my hand up to some of the troubles that I caused the band or caused myself, absolutely. But a lot of what I was doing, other people were doing [as w...

On this week’s episode of 95.5 KLOS‘s “New & Approved” show, VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen discussed what it was like for him and his bandmates to play several shows with former SLAYER and TESTAMENT drummer Jon Dette in late January and early February after the group’s regular drummer Jon Larsen, tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It was very early on [our U.S. co-headlining] tour [with GHOST]. Suddenly Jon got hit by COVID and we had to get him out of the building and then get him into a hotel. And he was there for — I don’t know — five, six [or] seven days. “The worst thing is always to cancel shows because you really don’t wanna let dow...
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS have released their new single “Poster Child”. The song is taken from the band’s upcoming album, “Unlimited Love”, which will arrive on April 1 via Warner. RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS‘s first new LP with guitarist John Frusciante since 2006’s “Stadium Arcadium” was once again produced by Rick Rubin who previously worked on “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” (1991), “Californication” (1999), “By The Way” (2002) and the aforementioned “Stadium Arcadium”. The band stated about the new record: “Our only goal is to get lost in the music. We (John, Anthony, Chad and Flea) spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make ...
Childish Gambino revisited his 2016 record “Awaken, My Love!” for the upcoming episode of The Shop, revealing that he had an “extremely petty” reason for creating the hit record. Speaking to the likes of Quinta Brunson, LeBron James, J Balvin and more, the rapper threw the question of wanting to win at any cost. “Did you ever tap into something that you feel is kind of bad to — in you to win? ‘Cause like, I struggle with that. Like, I am naturally petty,” Gambino said in the promotional video, making the rest of the group laugh. “Like, extremely petty.” “‘Awaken, My Love’ was literally ’cause somebody was like, ‘Oh, he can’t make a hit.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, not only will I make a hit, I won’t make a video for it,’” he explained. Brunson responded that “pettiness has its place,” to which G...
Jack Harlow is set to star in a reboot of White Men Can’t Jump. According to Deadline, Harlow was cast after his first-ever screen audition. The film is of course a remake of Ron Shelton’s famed 1992 film about two street basketball hustlers (played by Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes). Kentucky singer-songwriter S.G. Goodman has announced her sophomore album Teeth Marks, out June 3rd via Verve Forecast. As a first preview, she has also shared the title track. Pusha T’s had a close relationship with A Bathing Ape founder Nigo for nearly two decades, and now, they’ve linked up for the new single “Hear Me Clearly.” Debuted at Nigo’s Kenzo show at Paris Fashion Week in January, “Hear Me Clearly” mixes timely references to TikTok and Triller while Pusha boasts about the jewelry and cars he’s earned from moving bricks as only he can. “Kilogram Kickstarter, push a brick harder,” one-half of the Clipse raps. “Left my elbow in the pot, à la Vince Carter/ Compared to two martyrs but I’m chasin’ moguls/ Bosses meet for Hamachi in the back of Nobu.” “Hear Me Clearly” is the third single off the fashion mogul’s upcoming album I Know NIGO.
