PC Music has announced its third compilation album. Out on May 13th, the double LP includes tracks by Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Clairo, and more. PC Music Volume 3 collects hits from the record label between 2018 and 2021, as well as a share of “upcoming, unreleased, and unreleasable music.” Charli XCX reunites with frequent collaborator (and PC Music founder) A.G. Cook on “Xcxoplex,” a reworking of his 2020 track “Xxoplex” as first heard on his 2021 remix album Apple vs. 7G. Meanwhile Polachek’s 2018 collab with felicita, “marzipan,” also makes the cut as does Clairo’s single with Danny L Harle, “Blue Angel,” also released in 2018. Other artists appearing on the two-disc album include Hannah Diamond (“Invisible” and “Staring at the Ceiling”), Tommy Cash (“Pussy Money Weed”), umru and...
At the end of Consequence‘s phone interview with Our Flag Means Death star Rhys Darby, the veteran comedy actor felt the need to apologize. “Sorry for rambling on — I’ve had two coffees and you’re the first person I’ve spoken to today,” he said, before adding, “I’m a lead actor now, I’m going to do way more talking!” This is Darby’s time to shine, as after decades of appearing in projects like the Jumanji films and his iconic role as Murray in Flight of the Conchords, he’s for the first time ever number one on the call sheet for a TV show. Specifically, Darby stars the HBO Max period comedy about real-life historical figure Stebe Bonnet, who abandoned his family in 1717 to become a pirate, assembling an eclectic crew on board his well-appointed ship for one of the weirder mid-life crises o...
In the quest to find “America’s next great hit,” American Song Contest, the US’ answer to Eurovision, has booked such up-and-coming artists as [checks notes] The Crystal Method, Jewel, Michael Bolton, and Sisqó? We mean no disrespect to these iconic artists, who together made some of the most indelible music of the ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s. But the Eurovision Song Contest, which selects one artist to represent each participating country, is known for vaulting young singers to superstardom, including ABBA (1974 winners), Celine Dion (1988), and last year’s victors, the suddenly-omnipresent Måneskin. After a six-decade career, Michael Bolton has reached the very nice age of 69. Surely a rising artist could have been found to represent the great state of Connecticut? The inaug...
Global superstar, Maluma, continues to ride a wave of accomplishments in 2022, announcing his new Royalty by Maluma “King and Queen” fragrance collection. With his first range of fragrances, the singer-songwriter has created a group of sensual scents for both men and women, highlighting a different gemstone for each offering. Out of the four-piece luxury set, there are two scents for men – “Onyx” and “Garnet” – and two scents for women – “Jade” and “Amethyst.” Inspired by childhood memories of wearing his father’s colognes, the Onyx Eau de parfum has notes of cardamom, pear and bergamot, while the Garnet scent has aromatic lavender and baie rose. The women’s fragrances are both Eau de parfum’s and contain blackcurrant, jasmine and tangerine, respectively. Speaking to the origin of the new ...
The dust from the sandstorm that Darude stirred up almost 23 years ago still hasn’t settled. Now, U.K. producer Freejak is swirling it up once again. He will soon release an official rework of Darude’s iconic, shape-shifting track “Sandstorm,” which changed the course of dance music as we know it after its 1999 release. Freejak’s rendition of “Sandstorm,” which will release via Perfect Havoc, shrewdly utilizes Darude’s original structure while reimagining its iconic lead synth. After the first drop, he introduces a big break—just like Darude’s original—to allow for the energy to soak in before he brings the track home with an electrifying coda. Grooving big room basses and a snappy kick keep this classic storm brewing. Tiësto...
