Steven Drozd says he is no longer a member of The Flaming Lips.
The 56-year-old musician announced his departure in a since-deleted reply to a fan on Threads (via reddit). Asked if he was “officially done with the FLips,” Drozd replied, “They’re done with me – but we’re not talking about it. So yes I’m moving on. Just keep it to yourself for now. OK?”
Since joining The Flaming Lips in 1991, Drozd has been the group’s musical engine, serving as a multi-instrumentalist and chief songwriter alongside frontman Wayne Coyne.
Drozd had been absent from The Flaming Lips’ concerts in recent months, sparking speculation about his status in the band. On the group’s latest run of shows, they enlisted AJ Slaughter to cover his parts live.
Consequence has reached out to The Flaming Lips for more information.
