Tim Burton Unleashes Six A$AP Rocky Personas in "WHISKEY/BLACK DEMARCO" Music Video

Summary

  • A$AP Rocky debuts a dual visual for “WHISKEY” and “BLACK DEMARCO” from his new album
  • Directed by AWGE, the video features six personas designed by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton
  • The tracks include collaborations with Damon Albarn and Westside Gunn

A$AP Rocky has released a striking new music video for two standout tracks from his fourth studio album, DON’T BE DUMB, which arrived on January 16. Titled “WHISKEY / BLACK DEMARCO,” the project serves as a dual visual for the songs “WHISKEY (RELEASE ME)” and “AIR FORCE (BLACK DEMARCO).”

The video features a rare appearance from visionary filmmaker Tim Burton, who acts as the narrative’s catalyst. Directed by Rocky and his AWGE collective, the story begins when Burton accidentally unleashes six illustrated personas from his sketchbook into the streets of New York City. These characters – GR1M, MR. MAYERS, RUGAHAND, BABUSHKA BOI, DUMMY and SHIRTHEAD – were designed by Burton himself, representing distinct chapters of the rapper’s stylistic evolution as they unleash curated chaos across Manhattan.

Musically, the tracks offer a compelling study in contrast: “WHISKEY” features a brooding hook by Damon Albarn and signature ad-libs from Westside Gunn, while “BLACK DEMARCO” balances bold punchlines with a melodic assist from Spencer Sutherland.
