The Brendan Fraser and Tom Cruise eras of action-adventure archaeology are officially dead and buried. Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have dropped the first official trailer for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, promising a brutal, supernatural descent into terror. Directed by Lee Cronin, the breakout filmmaker behind the hit Evil Dead Rise, the upcoming film strips away the blockbuster spectacle in favor of claustrophobic, bone-chilling horror. Produced by genre titans James Wan and Jason Blum, the new footage introduces a uniquely terrifying premise: what if the ancient evil wasn’t a cursed pharaoh, but a little girl?

The newly released trailer establishes a deeply unsettling narrative. The story follows a journalist whose young daughter, Katie (played by Natalie Grace), vanishes without a trace in the desert. Eight years later, the shattered parents (played by Jack Reynor and Laia Costa) are shocked when their child is mysteriously returned to them. However, the footage quickly reveals that the girl who came back is something else entirely. Glimpses of Katie as a mummified husk, disturbing bodily contortions, and a voiceover asking, “What was our daughter doing in a 3,000-year-old sarcophagus?” set the stage for a waking nightmare.

Cronin has described his vision for the film as “one part Poltergeist and one part Seven,” digging deep into dark, uncharted territory for the genre. Unlike previous iterations of the iconic monster, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy operates independently from Universal’s established lore, allowing the filmmaker complete creative freedom to reinvent the mythos. The trailer doubles down on the gore and visceral scares that made Evil Dead Rise a massive success, showcasing crawling insects, screaming faces, and agonizing body horror.

The film marks a major collaboration between James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, two of the most dominant forces in modern horror. Alongside Cronin’s own Wicked/Good production banner, the team has crafted what is already being hailed as one of the most twisted mummy movies ever put to screen. With a supporting cast that includes May Calamawy (Moon Knight) and Verónica Falcón (Queen of the South), the film is poised to be a major theatrical event for horror fans next spring.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy will be released exclusively in theaters nationwide on April 17, 2026. With its chilling new trailer already making waves online, audiences should prepare for an entirely new kind of curse.
