According to Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, there is a chance former vocalist Steve Perry could reunite with the band for a guest appearance during their final tour, which kicks off later this month.
In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Cain revealed that bandmate Neal Schon “already asked” Perry about joining them for one stop on their massive trek, which has 60 North American shows scheduled from later this month through early July.
“Neal already asked,” Cain said, “and he says [Perry’s] thinking about it. I hope he comes out. It’s never too late. We’ve got 100 shows, so he’s welcome at any one of them.”

While there is nothing definitive about this statement, Cain remains hopeful. He added, “He didn’t say no — leave it at that.”
Perry was the lead singer of Journey during the band’s peak success from 1978 through 1987 and later from 1995 to 1998. Outside of the group, he’s released a handful of studio albums, most recently 2021’s Seasons.
Filipino singer Arnel Pineda has served as the lead vocalist since 2007. Though the singer has recently been dealing with legal issues back home, Cain promised Pineda will be “fine” for the big tour, calling him “a singing machine.”
Journey’s final trek comes after there was confusion in October about Cain stepping away from the band to focus on his ministry work after a late-night tweet from Schon. Both Cain and Schon later clarified that Cain would remain dedicated to Journey over the next couple of years.
The band’s touring lineup will feature Cain, Schon, Pineda, keyboardist-vocalist Jason Derlatka, drummer-vocalist Deen Castronovo, and bassist Todd Jensen. See the full schedule for the North American leg of their farewell jaunt below, and get tickets here.
