‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Could Hit Theaters a Week Early

Summary

  • Rumors suggest Disney may shift the release of Avengers: Doomsday to avoid competing directly with Dune 3
  • Both blockbusters are currently slated for December 18, a date fans have already dubbed “Dunesday”
  • Discussions reportedly point toward a December 11 premiere to secure a brief run on premium IMAX screens

Disney and Marvel StudiosAvengers: Doomsday may receive a scheduling adjustment to navigate a crowded holiday box office. Rumors suggest the studio is exploring options to shift the Marvel Cinematic Universe event to avoid a direct clash with Dune: Part 3.

Both blockbusters are currently slated for a December 18 release, sparking excitement for a massive double-feature dubbed “Dunesday.” However, according to notable insider John Campea, non-committal discussions are taking place regarding moving the Marvel feature forward to December 11.

This potential shift is reportedly driven by IMAX availability. With Warner Bros. having already secured all United States IMAX screens for the third Dune film, a one-week jump would theoretically grant Disney an exclusive window to exhibit the superhero title on premium screens before the format is entirely taken over.

As of writing, Avengers: Doomsday is still scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
