On April 23, 1946, a dream on two wheels was born in post-war Italy, transforming a courageous idea for accessible mobility into a global symbol of freedom, style, and optimism. Now, exactly eighty years later, Vespa is celebrating its status as a timeless cultural icon. From inventing light urban mobility to serving as a canvas for legendary creatives like Salvador Dalí, Giorgio Armani and Christian Dior, Vespa has written indelible pages in art and social history. To honor eight decades of iconic shapes and joie de vivre, the brand is launching a stunning commemorative scooter series, a lifestyle apparel collection, and a massive upcoming jubilee in Rome.
The heart of the anniversary is the new Vespa 80th, available in both the Primavera and GTS versions. Drawing directly from the Piaggio historical archives, the scooters are draped in the original Pastel Green of the very first 1946 models. This signature shade tastefully flows across the shield trim, passenger grab handle, rearview mirrors, and front suspension linkage, elegantly blending glossy and satin finishes. Deeper green tone-on-tone elements—such as the artisan-stitched saddle and rubber floorboard inserts—ground the design. The rims pay homage to the 1946 Vespa 98 with closed geometries and a diamond-finished “Est. 1946” inscription, while a commemorative “80TH” plaque sits proudly on the shield.
Alongside the vehicles, Vespa has introduced a dedicated lifestyle drop that reformulates the brand’s aesthetic into a renewed visual vocabulary. The urban collection is centered around a new graphic emblem: the number 80 inscribed within a hexagonal bolt, discreetly nodding to the brand’s engineering roots. Fans can expect a comprehensive range of varsity jackets, cotton gabardine field jackets, functionally tailored polo shirts, and coordinated accessories. The highlight of the gear is an exclusive ABS jet helmet certified to the modern 22.06 safety standard, featuring a scratch-resistant visor and washable interiors.
Moving beyond physical products, Vespa is taking the celebration to the streets of the Eternal City. From June 25 to June 28, Rome—long held in the collective imagination as the ultimate backdrop for Italian elegance—will host four days of festivities and events, promising to be the grandest celebration in the history of the legendary scooter brand.
Refusing to be imprisoned by nostalgia, Vespa continues to project its timeless design into the future. The new Vespa Primavera 80th, GTS 80th, and the “80TH ANNIVERSARY” collection are available now at the VESPA THE EMPTY SPACE store in Milan, selected global showrooms, and via the official Vespa website.
