Watch Robert Pattinson Transform Into Chris Hansen in the First ‘Primetime’ Teaser

Summary

  • Primetime stars Robert Pattinson as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, directed by Lance Oppenheim
  • The film also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers in her acting debut
  • It is set for a Fall 2026 release

A24 has unveiled the first teaser for Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen. The film is set in 2006 and follows the To Catch a Predator host as he attempts to make television history, with Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers rounding out the cast.

The teaser offers a first look at the film, delivering a dark and tense feel as it shows what seems like the worst possible outcome for a To Catch a Predator episode. The casting itself also makes Primetime one of the more arresting announcements of the year. Pattinson, who has spent the post-Twilight decade methodically dismantling expectations through work with Robert Eggers, the Safdie Brothers, and Christopher Nolan, is a counterintuitive but compelling choice for Hansen — a man whose public persona was simultaneously authoritative and deeply strange. The premise hands him exactly the kind of tightly wound, morally complex figure he tends to do his best work with.

Merritt Wever and Skyler Gisondo fill out a supporting cast that signals the film is operating with serious dramatic intent. The more unexpected name is Phoebe Bridgers, the singer-songwriter whose presence suggests Oppenheim is assembling something with cultural range as much as awards ambition. Bridgers has appeared briefly on screen before, but nothing at this scale or with this profile.

Watch the teaser above. Primetime is scheduled for a Fall 2026 release.
