Toyota’s flagship GR GT supercar has officially landed in the UK for its uncamouflaged debut at Goodwood.

The road-legal, 641bhp hybrid V8 racer is engineered to challenge premium European performance brands.

Featuring a lightweight carbon-fiber frame, the independent Gazoo Racing flagship launches in 2027.

Toyota officially brought its highly anticipated flagship supercar to the UK for a dynamic uncamouflaged debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Dubbed the GR GT, the road-legal racer positions the Japanese manufacturer squarely against heavyweight European rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GT and Aston Martin Vantage. Spearheaded by company chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda, the project tapped veteran engineers from past legacy vehicle programs to preserve top-tier technical expertise for a new generation of builders.

At the core of the machine sits a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine utilizing a hot-vee configuration and dry-sump lubrication to maintain an ultra-compact profile. This combustion unit works in tandem with a transaxle-integrated electric motor to form a potent hybrid drivetrain. Power hits the rear wheels through a carbon-fiber-reinforced torque tube and an eight-speed automatic gearbox equipped with a wet clutch for lightning-fast shifts. The setup produces a targeted 641bhp and 627lb ft of torque. The EV motor specifically bridges any gaps during gear changes to ensure seamless acceleration. Engineers estimate a 0-62mph sprint time of approximately 3.5 seconds and a top speed cresting 198mph.

Weight reduction and chassis rigidity served as primary pillars during the design phase. Tipping the scales at under 1750kg, the vehicle utilizes an all-aluminum body-in-white frame combined with carbon fiber reinforced plastic exterior panels. Gazoo Racing adopted a reverse engineering approach focused entirely on aerodynamics first. Designers prioritized optimal downforce and cooling efficiency before finalizing the exterior styling. The resulting silhouette boasts an aggressive rear wing and a driver-focused cockpit engineered for maximum visibility. Hardware upgrades include a new low-mounted double-wishbone suspension system, massive Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and custom-developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

A distinctive detail separating the supercar from the rest of the current lineup is the complete absence of standard corporate badging. The strategic omission cements the racing division as a dedicated independent performance brand within the larger corporate umbrella. Sound development also played a crucial role, with the exhaust meticulously tuned to deliver a visceral roar synced to the vehicle’s dynamic state. With final development testing currently wrapping up on both public roads and global circuits, showrooms prepare to receive the storming V8 flagship in 2027.
