Ace Frehley, the iconic founding guitarist of KISS, died Thursday at the age of 74 after suffering a brain bleed following a recent fall at his studio. Upon news of his passing, tributes have been pouring in from his musical peers.
The guitarist was one of the most influential musicians of all time, having led many notable artists to pursue a career in rock ‘n’ roll. Such guitarists as Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, and the late Dimebag Darrell have cited Frehley as one of the main reasons they picked up a guitar in the first place.
In a tribute, Morello wrote, “My first guitar hero, Ace Frehley, has passed away. The legendary Space Ace Frehley inspired generations to love rock n roll and love rock n roll guitar playing.”

Our hearts are broken. Ace has passed on. No one can touch Ace’s legacy. I know he loved the fans. He told me many times. Sadder still, Ace didn’t live long enough to be honored at the Kennedy Ctr Honors event in Dec. Ace was the eternal rock soldier. Long may his legacy live on!

Ace Frehley was the embodiment of rock ’n’ roll attitude — unapologetic, loud, and irresistibly catchy. His riffs had swagger, his tone had bite, and his presence lit up stages like a supernova. The Spaceman has left the stage, but his orbit will shine forever. pic.twitter.com/TDyDvEVA9i
