Arlo Parks has announced that a new album is on the way. It’s called Ambiguous Desire and is set to arrive on April 3rd via Transgressive Records. As a first taste, the Grammy winner has also shared the record’s lead single, “2SIDED.”
Ambiguous Desire will mark Parks’ third full-length release, following 2021’s Collapsed in Sunbeams (which earned her a CoSign nod and landed on our list of the best albums of 2021) and 2023’s My Soft Machine. It features production from Baird (Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract) and finds Parks drawing influence from acts like The Streets, Burial, LCD Soundsystem, and Theo Parrish, as well as New York City’s Paradise Garage.
“I danced more than ever as I made this record, I made more friends than ever too, found myself in the weird underbelly of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed,” Parks said in a statement. “This record has desire at its center. Desire is a life force, it’s a wanting, a yearning, a momentum — we are all alive because there is something or someone we want — desire is an engine. But it is also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening, and HUMAN.”

“2SIDED” offers a preview of the new sonic and thematic directions Parks explores on Ambiguous Desire. Over a synth and drum machine-led instrumental, the track finds the songwriter tapping into her inner Kramer and yearning.
“At its core, ‘2SIDED’ is about yearning and tension,” she explained. “It’s about being struck by a bolt of desire and building up the courage to put language to that feeling, to make it real.”
