Inspired by a viral internet concept (aka creepypasta), Backrooms has the potential to be some truly creepy summer horror. The A24 movie, directed by Kane Parsons, stars Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor as a man who discovers a portal to an unexplained series of rooms, each eerier than the last.
The official description simply says “A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom,” which doesn’t quite capture the chilling nature of this trailer’s slow reveals. Backrooms also stars Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell, and is based on the web series also directed by Parsons.
