Bad Bunny Sets GRAMMY History as First Spanish-Language Album of the Year Winner

Summary

  • Bad Bunny took home the Album of the Year award for his sixth studio album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
  • The victory marks the first time a fully Spanish-language project has won the ceremony’s most prestigious honor

Bad Bunny has officially shattered the GRAMMYs’ long-standing language barrier, taking home the night’s top honor at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. In a historic win at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, the Puerto Rican superstar defeated heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga to take Album of the Year for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, becoming the first Spanish-language artist to take home the coveted award.

Accepting the award in a Schiaparelli tuxedo, Benito delivered most of his acceptance speech in Spanish. “I wanna dedicate this award to all the people that had to leave their homeland, their country, to follow their dreams,” he shared before closing out the rest of his speech.

Beyond the main stage, the night was a sweep for the Puerto Rican artist. He also secured wins for Best Música Urbana Album and Best Global Music Performance for the track “EoO,” proving his dominance extends well beyond genre niches. The victory serves as the perfect prelude to his next massive takeover, as the artist is slated to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in just one week.
