Yoshitomo Nara’s first large-scale photography exhibition in Taiwan, All Within the Detour, is currently on view at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei. Organized by Big Art and the Yoshitomo Nara Foundation, the exhibition presents 162 brand-new works that capture landscapes and moments across Taiwan, Hokkaido and Kōbe Island. This marks a significant expansion of Nara’s creative practice, offering audiences a rare glimpse into his photographic vision beyond the iconic paintings and sculptures for which he is best known.
The exhibition highlights Nara’s sensitivity to everyday encounters, with images documenting fleeting expressions, roadside light and the subtle sounds of wind across the land. Unlike his paintings, which often feature stylized figures, these photographs emphasize direct observation and emotional resonance.
