Stanning BTS hosts Kayla and Bethany had the new BTS album on loop since it came out, and according to the charts, so has everyone else! ARIRANG is tearing up streaming services worldwide, and it easily made it onto Consequence’s March Staff Picks — but what do Kayla and Bethany have to say? Last week, they covered the first half of ARIRANG, and now the podcast is going track by track to review the second half of the comeback album of the year.
The first track to discuss is “Merry Go Round,” an emotive bop about feeling trapped in a cycle by forces both internal and external. Contributions from Kevin Parker makes the track feel familiar to Tame Impala fans and inspire Kayla and Bethany to explore his music further, while the lyrical themes resonate strongly with any individual who’s ever felt stuck in a pattern.

“Like Animals” showcases yet another side of the group’s musicality with understated production and a grungier sound closer to what you’d expect from garage bands than boy bands. Kayla and Bethany find it impossible to discuss “Like Animals” without bringing up the incredible live performance we saw at their comeback show, which practically demands an emotional response.
After going through these and the rest of the back half’s tracks, Kayla and Bethany reflect on the album as a whole and offer up their official scores for ARIRANG. Did they like it? Did they hate it? Just kidding, you know they loved it! But did it hold up against the years of hype that’s been built up? You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out!
