Travelers can soon take to the skies with some of their favorite Pokémon. Taiwan-based carrier China Airlines has officially unveiled its second Pokémon-themed aircraft, the “Pikachu Jet CI2,” in partnership with The Pokémon Company. Under the theme “Flying Out to the World,” the newly decorated Airbus A350-900 is scheduled to take its inaugural flight on April 2, bringing a touch of spring magic to international travel.
The beautifully crafted fuselage of the Pikachu Jet CI2 is graced by thirteen different Pokémon. The vibrant procession is led by Hoppip, Flying Pikachu, and Jumpluff. A Dratini catches a ride on Dragonite’s back, while Beautifly and Vivillon spread their wings—a respectful nod to Taiwan’s reputation as the “Butterfly Kingdom.” The lively scene also includes Swablu, Altaria, Skiploom, Cresselia, and Clefairy joining together as they fly across the world.
Beyond the beloved characters, the aircraft’s aesthetic is deeply rooted in local heritage. The auspicious cloud and floral tile motifs on the fuselage draw inspiration from Taiwan’s traditional decorative tile culture, incorporating elements that symbolize good fortune and happiness. The pastel palette elegantly complements China Airlines’ classic plum blossom logo on the tail fin. As an added touch of fun, passengers can even search for hidden Pokémon cleverly integrated into the intricate tile patterns.
The enchanting Pokémon design naturally extends to the aircraft’s onboard amenities. Every passenger on this dedicated flight will experience clever touches like themed dining tray mats, mixed nuts, paper cups, headrest covers, and pillowcases. Additionally, travelers will receive exclusive gifts, such as a charming Pikachu ballpoint pen or sticky notes.
The Pikachu Jet CI2 will initially be assigned to the Taoyuan – Tokyo (Narita) and Taoyuan – Seattle routes. China Airlines also plans to progressively introduce these themed onboard amenities on select flights to popular destinations like Phoenix, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, Osaka, and Bangkok.
