Reacting to the projections on Saturday, Trump immediately accused Biden of “rushing to falsely pose as the winner”. The Republican has made repeated claims of electoral fraud without providing evidence, and his campaign has pledged to challenge the result in some battleground states. Here is Trump’s statement in full: “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly conte...

Barcelona boss explains decision to rest Lionel Messi for Real Betis win

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed he opted to leave Lionel Messi on the bench for their 5-2 La Liga win over Real Betis as a precaution. Messi started as a substitute at the Camp Nou after reports of a minor injury picked up in the 2-1 midweek Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv. Koeman brought the Argentinian international on as a second half substitute against Manuel Pellegrini’s side with the 33-year old playing a vital role in their first win for a month. Messi’s dummy created a perfect chance for Antoine Griezmann to make it 2-1 to the hosts before he netted twice himself in the final half hour. “Since yesterday we talked and he had some discomfort from the game against Dynamo Kyiv,” Koeman told a post game interview with Marca. “We decided it was best to leave him on the b...

Donald Trump: I won this election by a lot

Outgoing President of the United States, Donald Trump, remained adamant that he won the election even after projections showed that former vice president, Joe Biden, has gathered enough electoral college votes to emerge the next president. Trump tweeted this just after it was beyond doubt that Joe Biden will be the next president – an occurrence that has now become one of his many attempts to question the whole election process and alleging an attempt to fraudulently force him out of office. In a tweet that was flagged, Trump wrote: “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!” I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 7, 2020 Also, Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani has said the outgoing president will not concede the election. CBS reports that Giuliani said this at a pre...

A reliable Democratic stronghold, the US financial capital’s disdain for the Republican’s policies was no secret. In Manhattan residents yelled and clapped, some waving flags and others banging pots from their balconies as car horns punctuated the applause. Catherine Griffin cried tears of joy outside with one of her two kids, telling AFP: “I’m happy that Trump has gone from our lives, hopefully forever.” “Having a little normalcy back in...

Climate promises will crash into regulatory bureaucracy

The promises would require a yearslong process to repeal existing rules before imposing new ones with stronger emissions controls. Given that is the likeliest way to drive deep carbon emissions reductions and perennial uncertainty about whether Congress will adopt legislation in this area, climate activists will have to play the long game, as nothing happens overnight on regulation. “The Biden administration is going to understand a large part of their agenda will need to be accomplished through the regulatory process and so it’s important for the Biden administration to get their agencies started on Day One in rolling back the Trump deregulatory legacy and kick-starting the Biden regulatory agenda,” said Amit Narang, a regulatory policy advocate at Public Citizen. “Time is of the essence....

Guinea court declares Alpha Conde elected president

Guinea’s Constitutional Court on Saturday declared incumbent Alpha Conde had been re-elected for a controversial third term as president at the age of 82, while his main opponent called for resistance “by all legal means”. With 59.5 percent of the votes cast, Conde’s support was above the absolute majority needed to win in the first round, judges found, throwing out challenges to the October 18 ballot from figures including his main opponent Cellou Dalein Diallo. The official count from the Ceni national election commission gave Diallo 33.5 percent. But the 68-year-old insists that data his activists gathered at polling stations shows he won the vote and is the victim of fraud. While observers from other African countries have backed the official results, France, the European Union and Uni...
