Kogi guber: Governor Bello floors PDP, Musa Wada at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the petition of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Musa Wada, against the declaration of Governor Yahaya Bello of All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of November 16 Kogi governorship election. In the judgment delivered on their behalf by Justice Uwani Abba Aji, the seven man panel of the apex court led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Tanko held that the appeal is devoid of merit and is accordingly dismissed in the unanimous judgement. The panel held that the petitioners abandoned their pleadings on their written briefs that the election was marred with irregularities at the lower courts. The panel therefore ruled that having failed to prove their allegations with results from the election and failed to prove that the respo...

Trump tries to dance around a devastating backdrop

“There were a lot of lies in there but also a bunch of truths,” Harvard Kennedy School economist Megan Greene said of happy talk on the economy at the convention. “It’s true we could have the best quarterly growth ever and the most-ever jobs created in a short time. But that’s only because it’s coming off an incredibly low base. In the end, I think it could just leave people feeling really confused.” Are we a country that’s failed disastrously to respond to a global pandemic, or a country that’s overrun by protests and violence on the streets? Democrats and Republicans painted wildly different pictures of America at their party conventions this month. And Trump’s description of the current state of the economy, according to Greene, “is totally off the mark to anyone who actuall...

Trump attempts the ultimate branding coup: Recasting an ugly economy

“There were a lot of lies in there but also a bunch of truths,” Harvard Kennedy School economist Megan Greene said of happy talk on the economy at the convention. “It’s true we could have the best quarterly growth ever and the most-ever jobs created in a short time. But that’s only because it’s coming off an incredibly low base. In the end, I think it could just leave people feeling really confused.” And Trump’s description of the current state of the economy, according to Greene, “is totally off the mark to anyone who actually looks at the data.” For the voters who are still making voting decisions based on the economy, the choice may come down to whether they’re among the slice of America doing remarkably well after the coronavirus crash — such as higher-wage workers and investors in the...

Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) had said that two of its operatives were killed on Sunday in a clash with IPOB members in Enugu State. While condemning IPOB for the attack, the group reasoned that the proscribed sect may just be carrying a plot by its paymasters. “The Good Conscience Forum is in receipt of the call by the leader of the Indig...
