Presidential panel grills four EFCC sectional heads

File Photo The Justice Ayo Salami-led presidential investigation panel probing corrupt allegations levelled against the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Tuesday grilled four-unit heads of the commission. The officials had previously appeared before the panel last week but were said to have been unable to provide meaning responses to queries. They were therefore instructed to return to the panel on Tuesday armed with relevant documents and answers to the questions raised. However, it was learnt that Tuesday’s appearance of the anti-graft officials was still not very helpful as they were again not able to satisfy the panel. Court remands man for allegedly raping seven-year-old

A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 55-year-old man, Abdullahi Haladu, at Goron Dutse Correctional Centre for allegedly raping 7-year-old girl. The defendant, who lives at Unguwar Mahauta Gani Village, Kano, is facing a one-count charge of rape, contrary to Section 283 of the penal code. The Prosecutor, ASP Badamasi Gawuna, told the court that Isa Uba of the same address reported the case at Sumaila Police Division, Kano, on June 29. He alleged that on the same date at about 8p.m, the defendant deceived and lured the child into his room situated at Unguwar Mahauta and raped her. OPEC: Nigeria cuts oil production to 1.4 million barrels per day

Reuters For the first time in many years, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, has confirmed Nigeria’s ability to cut its output from 1.7 million barrels per day, mb/d in May to 1.4mb/d in June 2020. In its July Oil Market Report, OPEC stated that the data was based on information obtained from official sources, adding that when unofficial sources are considered, Nigeria produced 1.5 mb/d during the period. Oyo judiciary releases names of vacation judges

As the Oyo State judiciary commences its annual vacation, on Wednesday, based on the provisions of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2010 and other enabling laws, the placement of area of operations for vacation judges has been released for judges that have shown an intention to work during the vacation so that there won’t be a vacuum for time-bound cases. The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Ladipo Abimbola, had made the order declaring the period of July 15 to September 10 as the annual vacation of the judiciary in his capacity as the head of the state judiciary in the exercise of the powers conferred on him by paragraph 4(b) of Order 45 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2010 and by virtue of all other powers enabling in that behalf. Bauchi upgrades child birth units, renovates health centres

The Bauchi government says it has renovated and upgraded 26 existing childbirth spacing units in seven local government areas in the state, in its efforts at ensuring safe child delivery. Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Healthcare Developmental Agency, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday. He said that the benefiting birth units were located in Bauchi, Toro, Jama’are, Ningi, Zaki, Katagum and Shira local government areas. Jihadists shot dead 10 Nigerian soldiers in two incidents in the country’s restive northeast on Monday, security sources said. The assailants gunned down eight troops in an attack on a military convoy near Kumulla village, roughly 40km southwest of regional capital Maiduguri, two sources told AFP. Both sources spoke on anonymity because they were not authorised to pass on information to the media.
