The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday in Benin formally received the Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki into its fold, bringing to an end the widespread speculation of the governor’s defection. Newsmen report that the PDP Chairman in Edo, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, received Obaseki and his supporters into the party. Obaseki, who arrived at the PDP Secretariat at exactly 2.15 p.m. in company of his supporters, expressed joy over the reception accorded him by the party. Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has appointed the General Manager of Sobi FM, Ilorin, Mr Kayode Aremu, as the new General Manager of Kwara Radio. The Togolese Football Federation have paid tribute to ASC Kara striker Kossi Edem Koudagba following his death at the age of 24 on Thursday. Court acquits man over prosecution’s inability to prove case of rape

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of an Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Friday discharged and acquitted one Niyi Oyelami charged with defiling a nine-year-old daughter of his neighbour. Oyelami was charged by Lagos State on a count charge of defiling a minor, to which he pleaded not guilty. Delivering the judgment during a virtual court proceedings, the judge found the defendant not guilty as charged. Justice Ipaye said that the testimony of the two prosecution witnesses failed to establish that the accused actually committed the offence. She said the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond every reasonable doubt. Akwa Ibom governor appoints commissioner as chief of staff

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has appointed Mr Ephraim Inyang-eyen, the state’s Commissioner of Works, as his Chief of Staff (CoF). Emmanuel had not appointed a chief of staff since he assumed office as governor in 2015. The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Udoh, announced the appointment in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Friday. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Deputy Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Christopher Adaji, and the Clerk of the house, Torese Agena, before Justice S. O. Itodo, of the Benue State High Court, Makurdi, for their complicity in an alleged fraud totalling N5, 040,950 (Five Million, Forty Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira only). In celebration of the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth, Google has produced a video Doodle set to the first verse of the poem “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often called “The Black National Anthem.” It’s a 90 second piece of rousing animation that honors the end of slavery in the US. President Buhari authorises N19.67 billion for completion of East-West road

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate release of N19.67 billion to ramp up efforts in completing sections I-IV of the East-West Road project by 2021. The presidential directive was part of efforts to address infrastructure deficit in the Niger Delta region and boost its economy.
