Shambhala is the latest music festival to cash in its chips due to the uncertainty of COVID-19. Citing the impact of the pandemic, the organizers of the Canadian dance music fest, which takes place annually at Salmo River Ranch, have pulled the plug on the event’s 2021 edition. Originally scheduled for late July 2020, the festival was eventually moved to August 20-23, 2021 before its postponement to 2022. Ticket-holders may redeem their passes across Shambhala’s 2022, 2023 or 2024 events. Prospective attendees and lodgers were told to expect to receive an email “in the coming months” to register for the year they’d like to attend. Boasting a vibrant and uplifting sound that has brightened dancefloors around the world over the past few years, Slow Magic is one of the most celebrated anonymous artists within the dance music sphere. The artist’s widespread success allowed him to establish a loyal following and tour extensively, and ultimately led to his most ambitious body of work, it’s the end of the world, but it’s ok. The 12-track album was released to critical acclaim via Moving Castle in late 2020, and featured the likes of Manila Killa, RUNN, Paperwhite and more. Now, Slow Magic is back in a major way, sharing an acoustic version of lead album single “Somewhere” with Woven In Hiatus. “Somewhere (Acoustic)” is a stunning rendition of the original, driven by a minimal ar...
In a new Instagram post, Britney Spears addresses Framing Britney Spears, the buzzy documentary about her time in the spotlight, saying she “didn’t watch” the New York Times doc but that she was “embarrassed by the light they put me in.” This is the first time Spears has directly addressed the doc, which debuted last month on FX and Hulu and brought negative attention to the conservatorship she’s been under since she was involuntarily committed to the hospital more than a decade ago. “I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,” Spears wrote Tuesday (March 30) on Instagram. “I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes !!!! I do what I can i...
Justice continued Bieber’s successful streak when he secured his eighth No. 1 LP and “Peaches,” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first solo male artist to debut at the top of both charts simultaneously. Kristal Terrell, one of the co-founders of Bieber Nation, the first JB-dedicated club on Clubhouse, asked Bieber himself in his first-ever Clubhouse room on Tuesday (March 30) about how he believed music could continue to play a role in social advocacy. But the 27-year-old singer took a minute to reflect on the part of the album that speaks volumes to what Bieber believes to be a profound example of someone who would die for what they stand for — but it was also a part of the album he discovered online...

Again, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and the myriad streaming brands powered the market, posting total growth of 14% in 2020, for income of A$362 million ($275 million). If there’s one sour note to be gleaned from the numbers, it’s the slowing rate of growth for subscription services, which had raced to 30% growth in 2019. Vinyl albums are another bright point, spinning A$29 million ($22 million) in sales, up 32% versus the previous year. Sometime in 2021, the vinyl market will overtake the CD business, once a powerhouse format that’s now worth just 5.6% of the total market. Digital single and album sales continue to trend down, shrinking by 27% year-on-year. Downloads now represent just 6% of the total market. ARIA’s trade results were reported with no fanfare, and were oversh...

The record’s debut single, “The Men Who Rule the World”, and its accompanying mixed media video — created by Chilean film director, animator and painter Javi Mi Amor — are out today. “This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins,” says the band’s frontwoman Shirley Manson of the album and its twists and turns from capitalism and lust to loss and grief. “It was our way of trying to make sense of how fucking nuts the world is and the astounding chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we felt that we had ...
The Coda Collection features seven hours of video documenting AC/DC‘s various eras in addition to an in-depth collection of essays, along with a never-before-published interview with the band’s co-founder and driving force, the late Malcolm Young. In the newly unearthed interview, Young discusses growing up in Australia, being influenced by the blues, the group’s early shows, how he meshed with his brother Angus as a guitar player, how Bon Scott fit in with the group, and more. On AC/DC‘s early days in the early 1970s: Malcolm: “All we were doing is trying to entertain people. When we started as a band, we were told by club owners, ‘We want people to dance so they drink more.’ That’s how we cut our teeth — getting people hot and sweaty and dr...
