Joe Jonas Eats McDonald’s Off Spotify’s Billion Streams Plaque to Celebrate ‘Cake by the Ocean’ Milestone

Even better than the sweet smell of success? The taste, if you ask Joe Jonas. The musician celebrated his side project DNCE‘s “Cake by the Ocean” reaching a billion streams on Spotify by literally eating McDonald’s off the plaque. “One Billion never tasted so good!” Jonas captioned a March 20 video of himself in a lavish dining room, enjoying the french fries, Chicken McNuggets and a burger that were placed on the music streaming service’s silver platter-shaped plaque marking the achievement. In such a stunning setting, he naturally enjoyed his meal using silverware. “Thank you @Spotify!” The song — released in September 2015 — was the debut single from DNCE. It was included in the group’s self-titl...

Offset Teases Migos’ Long-Awaited ‘Culture III’ Album Amid Quavo-Saweetie Split

The teaser prompted overjoyed reactions in the comments from numerous all-star rappers, including Snoop Dogg, Chance the Rapper and Rich the Kid. “LESSGOOOO,” Chance commented. “Time to go crazy,” Offset replied. Offset’s Culture III post arrived amid the highly publicized breakup between Migos’ Quavo and Saweetie. On Friday, the “Icy Girl” rapper tweeted that she was single, saying she’s suffered “too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes.” Hours later, Quavo took to Twitter to express his discomfort with airing out dirty laundry from their relationship of nearly two years. After churning out Culture and Culture II in 2017 and 2018, respectively, Migos temporarily went on hiatus to test the waters on solo careers. I...

Charli XCX’s Alone Together Is a Cyber-Dusted Love Letter To Her Fans: SXSW Review

Editor’s Note: The following review is part of our coverage of the 2021 South by Southwest Film Festival. Stay tuned for further reviews straight outta Austin — well, virtually, of course. Below, Rachel Reeves checks out Charli XCX’s new doc. The Pitch: Charli XCX, born Charlotte Aitchison, has never been an artist to play by conventional industry rules. Ever since she began posting songs on MySpace in 2008, her avant-garde approach to pop music has rallied fans and defied common practice. Collaborating with everyone from Iggy Azalea, Carly Rae Jepsen and Troye Sivian to Dorian Electra, Brooke Candy and Sophie, her genre-defying sound and conscious approach to inclusivity quickly resulted in a passionate LGBTQIA+ forward fanbase. Then, just as she was wrapping up her 2019 arena-p...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Deal Out Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”: Watch

It’s your lucky day, as Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox deal out the Motörhead classic “Ace of Spades” for their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance. The married couple once again deliver a frisky take on a legendary rock tune, with Toyah making a deck of cards rain as she sings and dances in a French maid’s outfit — all as a high-powered fan blows her hair back. King Crimson founder Fripp, meanwhile, remains steady as ever, as he delivers the iconic “Ace of Spades” riff. Fripp rose up the ranks of the UK music scene around the same time as late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Fripp formed King Crimson in 1968, while Lemmy played in the band The Rockin’ Vickers in the mid to late 60s before becoming a roadie for the Jimi Hendrix Experience and eventually joining Hawkwind in 1971. Thom Yorke Gives “Creep” a Acoustic Remix for Japanese Fashion Show: Watch

Thom Yorke notoriously hates “Creep”, but he apparently loves fashion enough to overlook his distaste for the classic track. The Radiohead frontman provided a haunting new acoustic remix of the Pablo Honey single for a recent Japanese fashion show. The nearly nine-minute version of “Creep” was mixed as the featured song for Jun Takahashi’s fall 2021 collection “Creep Very”, which was part of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo. Touching on why the song was the perfect fit for his new line, Takahashi told Vogue, “The theme is of a person who is frail and weak but has a truly pure heart.” Here, “Creep” is a drawn-out, ghost of a tune, acoustic guitar strumming steadily over droning synths and Yorke’s digitally crackling vocals. You can take a listen by watching the “Creep Very” show via Takahashi’s U...

Lord of the Airwaves: Our 1993 Howard Stern Interview

This article originally appeared in the November 1993 issue of SPIN. On Long Island, where I live, Howard Stern is God. Lord and master of the airwaves, ruler of the turnpikes and expressways. All my friends are obsessive Howard fans, fanatics who listen to his radio show, watch him on cable, collect all his tapes and videos. They know every detail of his life, the lives of his extended family, his staff, and their extended families. So what was I supposed to ask Howard Stern? What don’t we already know about this self-described megalomaniac? This lunatic who sacrifices his personal life to our public domain, every day, five days a week, four to five hours a day and then some?  <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537&#...

ARTILLERY Reveals ‘X’ Album Details; Launches First Single, ‘In Thrash We Trust’

On May 7, ARTILLERY will release its tenth full-length, “X”, via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of “X”, the new single, “In Thrash We Trust”, can be heard below. In the mid-1980s, Denmark’s ARTILLERY established itself as being at the cutting edge of the thrash movement, and nearly 40 years later, it continues to destroy. Returning with its tenth — and aptly titled — full-length, they prove once again that they have not missed a step, delivering a record that’s ruthlessly heavy, catchy and pure molten metal. “We wanted to have the typical ARTILLERY trademarks, like the riffs and hook lines in the usual combination together with aggression and melody. We always try to combine melodic thrash metal with elements from the heavy so...

INSOMNIUM Drops New Single, ‘The Conjurer’

Finnish melodic death metal masters INSOMNIUM have released a new single “The Conjurer”. The official music video for the song, which was once again created by director Vesa Ranta, can be seen below. Commented vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen: “We haven’t been idle during the pandemic. ‘The Conjurer’ is a tragic tale of jealous and searing love that opens this new chapter for INSOMNIUM. Monumental composition by Markus Vanhala that reaches its peak in the soaring dual guitar solo. The wintry music video was shot in the dreamlike landscapes of northern Finland by director Vesa Ranta and his team. More shall follow…” After reaching pole position on official Finnish album charts and hitting German Top 10 with the acclaimed album “Heart Like ...
