If passed, the FAIR Act would correct for a 1987 amendment that excluded recording artists from the Seven Year Statute, a labor law designed to prevent employers in California from enforcing excessively long contracts. As a result of the 1987 amendment, which was pushed by the major record labels, recording artists who seek the protection of the statute are susceptible to legal action and severe monetary damages if they decide to part ways with the label they’re under contract to. In a statement, Music Artists Coalition founder Irving Azoff says amending the current law has become even more urgent in light of the streaming boom. “Streaming has been an unprecedented bonanza for the record labels, but not so for artists,” said Azoff. “It is unfair that the only Californians excluded fr...
Co-created by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz as a form of socially distanced entertainment in the midst of COVID-19, Verzuz is now in its second season. In recent months, we’ve seen the aforementioned D’Angelo set, preceded by Ashanti vs. Keyshia Cole, Jeezy vs. Gucci Mane, and E-40 vs. Too Short. A Verzuz spokesperson confirmed to Billboard that co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland will be doing a battle of their own for the series’ one-year anniversary coming up. Speaking of Tim and Swizz, they made industry headlines earlier this month when news broke that Verzuz had been acquired by the Triller Network, parent company of the Triller app. While Saturday night’s Verzuz will still be watchable on Instagram Live — as every battle has b...
QUEENSRŸCHE singer Todd La Torre spoke to Jeff Gaudiosi of MisplacedStraws.com about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2019’s “The Verdict” album. The group’s next disc will apparently mark the QUEENSRŸCHE recording debut of Casey Grillo who replaced original drummer Scott Rockenfield in 2017. “We’ve been doing really heavy writing sessions,” Todd said. “We’ve got 20 or 25 song ideas in front of me that I have to start writing lyrics and melodies for now. Michael [Wilton, guitar] and I think Eddie [Jackson, bass] might be — I know Eddie‘s trying to get his vaccine, I think, within the next week or two, where he’ll feel comfortable traveling. But our producer, Zeuss [Chris Harris], will be coming d...
KORN guitarist Brian “Head” Welch has clarified his recent comments about Christianity, insisting that he was only referring to his early fanaticism with the religion. During an appearance on MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn‘s “No Fuckin’ Regrets With Robb Flynn” podcast, Welch — who left KORN in early 2005, at the same time announcing that he kicked his addictions to drugs and alcohol by becoming a born-again Christian — spoke about the impact his new awareness has had on his life, his family and the influential rock act that he co-founded nearly 30 years ago. Asked if he thinks religion became his “new addiction” after his exit from KORN, Welch said: “The crazy thing is I had an experience with something from another dimension. And it...
Former STYX frontman Dennis DeYoung has revealed the track listing and artwork for the second volume of his final album, “26 East”. The first single from “26 East: Vol 2”, “Isle Of Misanthrope”, will be released on April 7, and it “closes the album in grand ’70s STYX tradition,” according to Dennis. He adds: “This tune hopefully will transport you back to a time and place of your choosing (hopefully in front of your computer ordering the album). Prog noggins this ones for you as I bid farewell.” He went on to say that song’s accompanying video will be “really something different and mystical.” According to DeYoung, the album’s opening song, “Hello Goodbye”, is not a cover of THE BEATLES so...
Gene Simmons has once again blasted people who are defiantly skeptical of mask wearing, saying they are posing a risk to themselves and to all those around them. On Friday (March 19), the KISS bassist/vocalist took to his Twitter to write: “You must stop at a red light, and you must put on your seatbelt, and you can’t drive over the speed limit. Your rights stop if you effect others. So why should you have a say in not wearing a mask in public?” He added in a separate tweet: “Another question for all you geniuses out there. Why is it ALL surgeons, without exception…anywhere in the world, wear masks during surgery!!! Do you think they do that for political reasons, or could it be you are delusional and are hanging out with losers. . What say you?” A day e...

The techno community has been missing a singular figure since the Parisian DJ Technasia went silent. It has been five long years since he dropped the 2015 collaboration “Suga” with Green Velvet, but the dry spell is finally over. Technasia has made his triumphant return to Toolroom Records with the club-ready single “Bring It Back.” The track is an homage to the current state of dance music. Since Technasia left on hiatus, the scene has changed drastically with COVID-19 bringing live music to a standstill. “Bring It Back” embodies the sentiment we all are feeling: we want club culture back. The creative process to form the single is unlike anything we’ve heard, calling on his fellow Toolroom family to send voice notes of what they miss a...
