Serj Tankian on His New Elasticity EP: “I Definitely Thought These Songs Would Have Worked Out for System”

Serj Tankian has just released his new solo EP, Elasticity. The title is inspired, in part, by System of a Down’s landmark 2001 album,Toxicity, and the singer has made no secret about the songs being originally intended for his acclaimed metal band. The collection features five new songs, including the recent singles “Elasticity” and “Electric Yerevan”. One listen to the EP, and it’s not difficult to see how these tracks would have fit nicely into the System of a Down canon. Tankian approached System with these songs a few years back, and as he explained to Heavy Consequence, the band members even worked on a few of them. However, ultimately creative differences led to any recording plans coming to a standstill. We asked Tankian what he felt more: regret about not recording the songs with ...

Wizard World Brings Their Magic to Signature Series Livestreams

In 2020, when live events shut down, Wizard World nimbly pivoted to a live streaming model – bringing their fans into the world of virtual super heroes, villains and scream queens.  In 2021, they’re upping the game for audiences who consume at-home entertainment. With the unveiling of Wizard World’s new Signature Series, the brand is poised to build on this destination as the go-to source for a wide array of unique, compelling streamable content. The wealth of livestream opportunities emerged as a happy coincidence for Wizard World, which was in the early stages of bringing live-streamed footage to in-person events at conventions like Comic-Con. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“...

Lana Del Rey Delivers Her Most Delicate Music Yet on Chemtrails Over the Country Club

By moniker alone, Chemtrails Over the Country Club would be considered a worthy new chapter in Lana Del Rey’s ongoing subversion of classic (see: myopic) American fantasies.  Chemtrails spell conspiracy and doubt; country clubs conjure our obsession with wealth, status and all things Instagram braggadocio. One looms above the other, further threatening the golden-era glamor Del Rey has spent a decade both romanticizing and dissecting. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315″,”inviewBottomOffset”:”105px”} }); –...

Peaches Shares ‘Pussy Mask’ Single and Animated Video

“Pussy Mask” is the title of Peaches’ new tune, and are you really surprised? It’s a song that she says is “absurd and fun but also a reflection of our concerns.” The accompanying video features animated versions of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Lyrics to the bouncy tune include “Pander pussy / Candor pussy  /Commander pussy / Gerrymandered pussy /Don’t slander pussy ” … “Put my pussy in the Senate  / Have my pussy as your tenant.” <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315...

Our Anniversary Music Pardons!

It’s March 19, which means SPIN turns 36! In recognition of our anniversary, and vesting in ourselves imaginary powers, we are going to issue pardons for those who have committed crimes against music. What does that mean, you ask, perhaps not unreasonably? Well it means that by this proclamation, we hereby state that we’re selecting artists and songs that have “served their time” as it were, and if not entirely paid their debt to society, then close enough. Some very, very bad songs, and performers, and moments, will receive our clemency. Sometimes it’s just best to draw a line underneath it and let people live out their days as free souls, their record, no pun intended, expunged. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537R...

Justin Bieber’s Justice Might Just Be His Most Adventurous Album Yet

Last Sunday night found Justin Bieber picking up his second-ever Grammy, a notable accolade given the song it accompanied: “10,000 Hours,” the country-pop team-up between Biebs and Dan + Shay. Considering Bieber’s first Grammy win was for the EDM-pop “Where Are Ü Now” with Diplo and Skrillex, his latest win five years later is a testament to not only his versatility, but his continued musical evolution. Case in point: Justice, the artist’s sixth studio album out today (March 19). It’s loaded with collaborators, including Khalid, Chance the Rapper, Burna Boy, Dominic Fike, and more. It opens with a Martin Luther King quote and devotes an entire track to a speech he gave near the end of his life. It spans the gospel-pop we first heard on “Holy&...
