Music wasn’t Alice Phoebe Lou’s first choice. It sort of happened to her. When she was 16, still in high school, dancing and acting in theater, Lou left her home in South Africa for a two-month sojourn in Paris where she met some street performers who taught her the basics of busking. In her own words, she learned how to “draw people in and create, like, a bubble in a world that people want to come inside and enjoy with you in a space like a street or a square.” Lou returned home with a budding passion. After high school, she went back to perform dances in the Parisian streets until one day she picked up a guitar to strum and sing instead. To her surprise, Lou was lauded and encouraged to pursue it by her audiences though she’d had virtually no experience. She was incredulous at first beca...
“I’m really happy with how HEY GRANDUDE! was received, as this was a very personal story for me, celebrating Grandudes everywhere and their relationships and adventures with their grandchildren,” said McCartney in the statement about the series inspired by the nickname the pop legend got from his eight grandchildren. “I love that it has become a book read to grandkids at bedtime all around the world. I always said if people liked the first book and there was an appetite for more, I would write some further adventures for Grandude—so he’s back and this time with his special invention, Grandude’s green submarine!” Illustrator Durst added, “I am so thrilled to be collaborating with Paul again on Grandude’s Green Submarine. I think this is the adventure book we all need durin...
Cardi had a very simple response to the Black GOP member who was trounced in his 2020 congressional race before joining the dozen Republicans trying to unseat democrat governor Gavin Newsom. “The Grammies are PG,” she tweeted. “That means parental guidance.Meaning is your job like it is to mine to my child to monitor what they watch. My performance was around 10 pm on a Sunday Your child should be in bed ready for school the next day why are they up watching Wap?” According to WFFA in Dallas, the FCC received around 80 complaints from viewers who thought the performance was obscene, pornographic, or as one viewer from Colorado reportedly opined, “as if they were dancing in a strip club.” The response to Webber followed up on Cardi’s celebration of t...
Justin Bieber gains more artistic clarity on Justice, as he tries to express a complex emotional state — focused on the happiness of marriage, but interested in the outer edges of that joy — over the course of an album instead of jamming it into three minutes. Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in San Antonio, Texas has removed a figure of Donald Trump because people kept punching it, the San Antonio Express-News reports. The museum in Alamo Plaza is owned by Ripley Entertainment, and according to regional manager Clay Stewart, they’ve had to hide their Trump in a storage closet. “When it’s a highly political figure, attacks can be a problem,” Stewart said. In addition to regular pummelings, the wax sculpture received several deep, cathartic scratches to the face. The Waxworks initially tried to defend 45 by placing him in the lobby under the protective eye of ticket takers. But this proved to be no deterrent, as many visitors were moved to violence even while employees were watching. Eventually, Trump had to be pulled from circul...
Late last month, J Balvin gave us a preview of his as-yet-untitled new album with a song called “Ma’ G”. Now, the reggaetón superstar is back with a new bop called “Tu Veneno”. The release of this one is a little less bombastic than “Ma’ G”‘s unveiling, which premiered during a titanic boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Avni Yildirim. “Tu Veneno” (which translates to “your poison” in English) is arriving under more normal circumstances, but it’s an equally catchy and dance-able slice of reggaetón gold. Take a listen below. There’s still no word on what Balvin’s upcoming album will be called or when it will arrive, but those details will likely emerge in the coming weeks. When it does finally surface, the record will be Balvin’s first full-length since his massively successful 2020 alb...
Fresh off a Grammy win for her work on Kaytranada’s “10%”, Kali Uchis is showing off her hometown of Pereira, Colombia in her self-directed new video for “telepatía”. The song appeared on Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), Uchis’ first Spanish-language album. While her embrace of new sounds and rhythms might have seemed risky, the onetime blog-darling has grown into a bona fide star on the strength of the viral hit “telepatía”. The track became a TikTok sensation, earning Uchis the top spot on the Billboard Latin Pop chart, and it’s lingered near the peak of Apple’s Latin and Spotify’s Global charts. This tale of long-distance longing focuses on a steamy mental connection. “Quién lo diría que se podría hacer el amor por telepatía?” she sings, which roughly translate...
HBO is developing three additional Game of Thrones spinoffs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Two of the prequels have the working titles of 9 Voyages and 10,000 Ships, respectively. 9 Voyages is centered around Lord Corlys Velaryon, a.k.a. The Sea Snake, the Lord of the Tides and head of House Velaryon. Velaryon also appears in the previously announced House of the Dragon, in which he’s played by Steve Toussaint. 10,000 Ships is about warrior queen Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell who founded the kingdom of Dorne. Two characters in the original series, Sand Snake Nymeria Sand and Arya’s direwolf, bore her name. Her story is set roughly 1,000 years before Game of Thrones, so it takes place way before the Westeros timeline than any of the other previously announc...
