“The fact that somebody telling me, ‘No, you can’t,’ made me be like, ‘Bi—, yes I can!'” the 3-time winner says in new video. Haters are Megan Thee Stallion‘s motivators, and they never stopped the “Don’t Stop” rapper from becoming who she is today: a three-time Grammy-winning artist. Before she took home three awards Sunday night — best rap song and best rap performance for her “Savage” remix, featuring Beyoncé, as well as best new artist — Meg previewed her “Road to the Grammys” in the latest “Hottie World” YouTube vlog. Grueling days of dance practice with famed choreographer JaQuel Knight led Meg to reflect on her even longer road to superstardom, as the mont...

Once again, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival is being pushed back. Following three separate postponements due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the California festival and its sister event Stagecoach Country are reportedly set to return in April 2022. Like every year prior, Coachella was initially scheduled to go down in spring of 2020, but was optimistically pushed back to October once the coronavirus entered the fray. Those fall dates obviously didn’t happen, so the fest was briefly pushed back again until April of 2021 — and then nixed again earlier this year. There was some speculation floating around that the fest was vying for a make-up date in October of this year, but now it seems like they’re holding out for another full trip around the sun. According to Variety and Rolling S...

Below, Clint Worthington learns all about folk horror. The Pitch: The history of folk horror is far richer and more expansive than is typically thought of by horror neophytes: More than The Wicker Man and Midsommar, folk horror has its roots all the way back to the 18th century and extends beyond the Anglocentric perspectives of ’70s British horror film fans. Director Kier-La Janisse knows this, and in Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched, she’ll show you an entire syllabus’ worth of cinematic folk horror from across nations, time periods, and forms of media (folk horror exists on T...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Megan Varner / Getty Among the many developments to appear in the wake of the domestic terroristic act enacted by Robert Aaron Long, the defense seemingly put forth by one law enforcement official was most puzzling. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jay Baker who said the 21-year-old shooter was having a “bad day,” previously hawked t-shirts with anti-Asian sentiments. Snopes.com dug deep into the chatter surrounding Capt. Baker’s link to a company selling shirts that read, “Covid 19 IMPORTED VIRUS FROM CHY-NA” along with a biological hazard symbol and COVID-19 emblazoned across the front. Several folks on social media pointed out Baker was promoting the shirts via a now-defunct Facebook page, and Snopes was able to confirm a connection. As of March ...
By Jaelani Turner-Williams Following a series of EPs and a decade of YouTube covers, Los Angeles-based R&B singer Joyce Wrice has met the moment. This week marks the release of Wrice’s electrifying debut album, Overgrown, which listens like a metaphor for her personal imperfections, making peace with flawed relationships, and the errant road to stardom. Still an independent artist, Wrice took the reins of her creative process over the course of quarantine, filming an intimate visual in 2020 for her standalone single “That’s On You,” and remixing the song with fellow African-American and Japanese neo-soul singer UMI. Though Wrice has studied genre-shifting Black women artists like Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, and Sade, her Japanese culture — and a reverence for Buddhism — has reinforced her ...
