My Journey Through “Lailonie”

This is an opinion column. The thoughts and viewpoints expressed are those of the author, Marsh. It’s September 2017. I’m standing at Heathrow Airport, a suitcase full to the brim. I’m about to say goodbye to my family, friends, and work, emigrate to a new country, and marry my American fiancé Maddy. Little did I know, I was embarking on quite the rollercoaster. In the next three years, I am going to fulfill many of the dreams I’d poured my life into, while, at the same time we’d have our hearts ripped out by the unexpected passing of Maddy’s Mom, Carme. This is the journey to my sophomore artist album Lailonie, the “safe place” where, over the last three years, I’ve been able to process and unpack my life through writing. My name is Tom Marshall. I’m a 28-year-old Cincinnati-b...

Future Bass and Melodic Dubstep Collide in Chassi’s Soaring “Satellite” EP

Rising electronic music producer Chassi has arrived with his sophomore EP, the soaring 3-tracker Satellite. The Los Angeles-based beatsmith wastes no time with the record’s emphatic titular track, a collaboration with fellow bass producer Prezzur. “Satellite” is a melodic dubstep bomb that masterfully blends euphoric saws akin to Seven Lions with the fluttering arpeggios of Chime. It’s a surefire standout from the EP and one that should prove to be one of the young gun’s more popular releases. Chassi follows with the Sabz-assisted “I Feel Alone,” a monster future bass track that brilliantly employs classic trance leads in its blissful bridge, before tying a bow on Satellite with “Wait,” bringing it hom...

PAPA ROACH’s JACOBY SHADDIX ‘Fell Off The Wagon’ During Pandemic

During an appearance on the latest episode of the “Hardcore Humanism With Dr. Mike” podcast, PAPA ROACH‘s Jacoby Shaddix, who stopped drinking alcohol in 2012, revealed that he recently had a slip-up on his path to sobriety. “Just to be straight with you, during the pandemic, I fell off the wagon and I was smoking pot,” the singer said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “And I just got caught up and depressed and just stuck in this space. And I wasn’t working an active program of recovery, and I found myself with a joint in my mouth, you know? And yeah, it’s legal in California, and yes, it is medicine to some people, but it’s not to me. Anytime I put any kind of mind-altering substance in my body, there’s this veil that gets d...

During an appearance on the latest episode of the “In The Trenches With Ryan Roxie” podcast, JUDAS PRIEST singer spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2018’s “Firepower” album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I’m old school. We had one great big writing session last March for this new record that we’re still working on. And what I mean by that is Glenn [Tipton, guitar] and Richie [Faulkner, guitar] and myself at Glenn‘s beautiful studio. And that’s the way I personally write. I’m very spontaneous in my writing. Even before the lyrics and the melodies start, I’m there with Glenn and Richie, and I’m inspired and motivated by what they’re doing…. What I’...

Courtney Love Reveals She Almost Died Last Year From Anemia

Courtney Love has revealed in a harrowing Instagram post that she almost died last year from a battle with severe anemia. The Hole singer says she was hospitalized for the condition last summer, and at one point weighed just 97 pounds. The 56-year-old says that she’s since made significant health strides and is feeling “so good now”, thanks to a great doctor and the magic of CBD. However, things weren’t looking good for her just six months ago. She began the lengthy post by saying that she was “debilitated” and suffering from “indescribable pain” for nine months, but that none of the doctors she visited took her seriously. “I was stigmatized for being an addict for 9 months by many ill-equipped drs, backwards drs and quacks,” she wrote on Instagram. At her lowest point, she was hospitalize...

Squid Unveil the Origins of New Single “Paddling”: Stream

Our new music feature Origins gives artists the platform to provide unique insight into their latest track. Today, Squid twist the oars on “Paddling”. Four years since their formation, Brighton post-punks Squid are finally ready to deliver their anticipated debut album, Bright Green Field. Though many of the tracks on the May 7th release are brand new, day-one fans will certainly recognize the latest single, “Paddling”. With the motorik kick of a looping drum machine leading the song staggering through different psychedelic sonic shifts, it’s long been part of the five-piece’s live shows. Inspired by a scene from Kenneth Grahame’s beloved classic The Wind in the Willows, it finds Squid’s multiple sings taking differing perspectives on “the dichotomy between simple pleasures and decade...

Fiddlehead Announce New Album Between The Richness, Share “Million Times”

Back in 2018, Fiddlehead made waves in the hardcore scene with their terrific debut album Springtime and Blind. Now, the melodic hardcore band that features members of Have Heart and Basement have announced its follow-up, Between The Richness. It’s won’t arrive until late May, but they’re previewing it today with an excellent lead single called “Million Times”. Although the members of the band come from the hardcore scene and play a style of music that can more or less be described as such, Fiddlehead don’t make fast, rowdy, or angry music. Their songs are often energetic and loose, but they pull a lot from the Revolution Summer emotional hardcore wave of the mid-to-late ’80s: bands like Rites of Spring, Dag Nasty, and later Fugazi and Dischord Records. These aren’t songs for mos...

Elon Musk and Aphex Twin Release NFTs

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are the hottest way for your already-rich faves to get even richer. The latest movers and shakers to hit the virtual auction are world’s wealthiest man Elon Musk and electronic music legend Richard James, better known as Aphex Twin. As we’ve previously covered, NFTs are one-of-a-kind artworks that exist on a cryptocurrency blockchain. While exact replicas of an NFT may be widely distributed on the internet, the NFT itself is a limited edition virtual property that can be bought, held, or sold. l. We saw this a few weeks ago when Kings of Leon released NFT packages that featured their new album When You See Yourself. Anyone with an internet connection can listen to that record for free, but only a few affluent fans own it on the blockchain. Economists call th...

Gwen Stefani Has ‘No Idea’ If No Doubt Will Ever Get Back Together

“Who would have ever imagined that?” Kimmel marveled as Stefani said she’s first up in the incredulity line, noting that it’s hard for her to even remember those crazy mid ’90s band days. That, of course, led to superfan Kimmel asking Stefani whether she ever considers returning to the No Doubt fold, or if she remembers calling in to his gig at Los Angeles station KROQ and trying to request her own songs. “When the Tragic Kingdom had its 25th anniversary … it was actually quite nostalgic to watch everybody posting,” Stefani said of last year’s celebration of the group’s breakthrough 1995 album. “I didn’t know I was going to feel like that. It was kind of depressing. It was kind of nostalgic. It was a very str...
