If you’ve been a fan of the first two tracks from the unlikely duo of Jenny Lewis and Serengeti, then the third one should get you all the way through the tail end of this pandemic. “Idiot” takes a poppier approach to the same unique combination that made “Vroom Vroom” and “Unblu” successful, including the same kind of DIY video created by Lewis herself. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”playlist”:”10315″,”inviewBottomOffset”:”105px”} }); –> “These songs with Dave (Serengeti) start with a late-night feeling and access to ...
All this week, the Spotify Singles series is highlighting the nominees for the 2021 Best New Artist Grammy. But the contribution from CHIKA comes as a double celebration, as today happens to be the Alabama MC’s 24th birthday. As a gift for your ears, she’s delivered a new rendition of her single “U SHOULD” as well as a cover of Billie Eiilish’s “my future”. Plenty of artists have put their own spin on Eilish’s single from last summer, including Artist of the Month Arlo Parks and Miley Cyrus. CHIKA takes it into a new realm, however, taking ownership of the luscious, jazzy ode to self worth with a whole new verse of her own. “Ain’t no stopping shooting stars/ They got their own mind, and that’s the gold mine,” she raps. “The whole grind is nuts, so hold mine/ I promise you I’m set for go ti...
When he’s not playing a Staten Island-based vampire in What We Do in the Shadows, the English actor Matt Berry makes freaky psych-rock music. He’s released upwards of ten albums over the last 25 years, and now he’s announcing that his latest will be titled The Blue Elephant. The full album is out in May, but today he’s giving fans a taste with a new song called “Aboard”. Like his previous six records, most of which have arrived in the last ten years, The Blue Elephant will be released via the legendary London label Acid Jazz. The imprint is famous for putting out music that’s super out-there, and Berry’s ear for tantalizing psychedelia fits snugly into their renowned catalog. His 2020 record Phantom Birds was a detour into classic folk, but a press release promises that...

In a new interview with SiriusXM Canada‘s “Canada Now With Jeff Sammut”, KISS frontman Paul Stanley was asked if he would agree with his bandmate Gene Simmons‘s recent declaration that “rock is dead.” He responded (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I think that life, rock, whatever it is, is never a constant. Let’s say, for example, if you take somebody’s pulse and it’s weak, it doesn’t mean they’re dead. It means that the pulse is weak. And it doesn’t mean it won’t come back stronger. “I don’t think that music can ever be dead,” he continued. “I don’t think that bands can be dead, rock can be dead. It just takes somebody to reignite it to the level that it has been at some ti...
Geezer Butler has confirmed that he is featured on a previously unreleased Ronnie James Dio-era BLACK SABBATH song titled “Slapback” which was uploaded to YouTube several days ago. Gary Rees, the stepson and executor of the estate of SABBATH‘s longtime keyboardist Geoff Nicholls, shared the track last Friday (March 5), writing in an accompanying message that he had found it on a cassette tape that contained other material recorded during SABBATH‘s 1979 songwriting sessions for the following year’s album “Heaven And Hell”. Asked in an interview with SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” on Monday (March 8) if he knew anything about this purportedly unreleased tune, Butler said: “Yeah, that was one of the songs that we di...
Former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer Matt Sorum has partnered with Brazil’s Companhia Brasileira de Cerveja Artesanal (CBCA) to produce his own beer called simply The Drummer. Sorum discussed his latest business venture during a recent appearance on the “Rock On The Rocks” video podcast. Holding a bottle of the beer, Matt said (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “This is an American lager, but it’s actually made in Piracicaba, Brazil. It’s a Belgian distillery down there that’s amazing — made out of an old sugar cane mill. I went down there to Piracicaba, and the guys, they love rock and roll. And they’re, like, ‘We wanna make you your own beer.’ And I’m, like, ‘Okay. What are we gonna call it?’ And I was, like, ...

Tracy Morgan’s next role could show off a different side of his acting. As confirmed by Coming 2 America co-star Jermaine Fowler, Morgan plans to portray late jazz great Louis Armstrong in a self-financed biopic. Fowler shared the revelation in an interview with NME after being asked whether he thinks Morgan’s acting chops are underrated. “I do. I would love to see him do something dramatic,” Fowler said. “In fact, he showed us a clip of a movie he’s financing that’s really, really dope. He wants to play Louis Armstrong in a biopic and I believe he can do it.” He continued by saying Morgan sounds and looks exactly like Armstrong in the clip. “If he can truly pull that off I think it’ll put Tracy on another level altogether,” Fowler added. Taraji P. Henson also confirmed Morgan’s ...
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are not only some of the smoothest guys making funk-based music these days, but they’re also two of the most entertaining artists of this era. A few weeks ago, they revealed they’re joining forces under the new moniker Silk Sonic, and now they’re already gearing up to make their live debut as such at the 2021 Grammy Awards. This all started when Mars and .Paak decided to write music together while stuck in quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic. The two artists originally bonded when .Paak opened for Mars on his 24K Magic world tour years ago, and they collaborated on record for the first time when they contributed to Chic’s 2018 album It’s About Time. But for them, Silk Sonic is a chance to explore other creative corners of the funk world that they’ve not...
Three years ago, City of Lies was one month away from hitting theaters before it was pulled by its distributor due to Johnny Depp’s less-than-flattering public image at the time. Now, the crime drama is finally scheduled to hit select theaters and VOD on March 19th, and a newly revealed trailer is streaming below. In case you forgot — which, considering how much time has passed since the first trailer came out in 2018, would be understandable — City of Lies is based on the true story of The Notorious B.I.G.’s death in 1997. Directed by Brad Furman, the movie follows a retired LAPD detective named Russell Poole (Depp) and a journalist (Forest Whitaker) as they try to uncover the identities of those responsible for the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. Allegedly a handful of co...
