The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Becomes First Song in History to Remain in Billboard Top 10 for a Whole Year

The Weeknd just made chart history. The Canadian superstar’s smash hit, “Blinding Lights”, is now the first song to ever spend an entire year in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Ever since the iconic singles chart was first established on August 4th, 1958, there’s never been a song that’s remained in the Top 10 for a full 52 weeks, until now. Sure, the artist born Abel Tesfaye didn’t get the Grammy nomination he was hoping for, but the enduring success of “Blinding Lights” is arguably a more historic feat. Interestingly, the After Hours single didn’t look like a runaway success when it was first unveiled. The Weeknd released the tune on November 29th, 2019 as the second single for his album rollout. However, it only debuted at No. 11 on the Hot 100 during its first week, and then it pl...

KISS’ Gene Simmons Explains Why He Keeps Saying “Rock Is Dead”

KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons made headlines several years ago when he declared that “rock is finally dead.” He recently doubled down on that sentiment just before the band played a streaming New Year’s Eve show to ring in 2021. At the time of his initial statement in 2014, he explained in an Esquire feature, “Once you had a record company on your side, they would fund you, and that also meant when you toured they would give you tour support. … There are still record companies, and it does apply to pop, rap, and country to an extent. But for performers who are also songwriters — the creators — for rock music, for soul, for the blues — it’s finally dead.” Heavy Consequence recently checked in with the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer to discuss his new G² line of guitars with Gibson. At one...

Cardi B Becomes First Female Rapper with Diamond Single for “Bodak Yellow”

Cardi B turned “bloody shoes” into a diamond on the wall. Her breakout single “Bodak Yellow” has been RIAA-certified diamond, making her the first female rapper to ever achieve the feat. The artist born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar teased fans with the news late last night by posting a video on Twitter. She had been working on her upcoming Grammys performance, she said, when she learned of an unplanned meeting with Atlantic Records. As she explained, “I’ve been rehearsing all day today, I’m really stressed out, my body’s aching. At rehearsal, they said to me, ‘Yo, you gotta meet up with Atlantic execs.’ I’m like, ‘Yo I’m fucking tired like I don’t wanna talk about no Grammys, I don’t wanna talk about no album, I’m just tired.’ And then I still got drove to a restaurant. I’m like, ‘Are y...

St. Vincent Initially Aimed for a Tool-Like Heaviness for Her Latest Record

Last week, St. Vincent announced that she is going to released her new album, Daddy’s Home in May. In a new interview, Annie Clark recently revealed that the initial sonic goal for her most recent record was to create a super-heavy album. “Just heavy the whole time — like, ‘Hey kids, you like Tool? Well, you’ll love the St. Vincent record,’ you know?” That said, Clark found she had “nothing to say there” after working in that direction for a bit, and the ultimate result was Daddy’s Home, self-described as “music made in New York from 1971-76.” The LP drops May 14. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″...

Total Of 14 People Accuse T.I. & Tiny Harris Of Sexual Assault

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Tip “T.I.” Harris and his wife Tiny Harris are both facing a harrowing number of charges that they engaged in sexual assault. After a handful of women came forward alleging that they were assaulted, more victims have since made their accusations known via an attorney representing the group. Tyrone A. Blackburn, the attorney representing a number of the women accusing the couple of sexual assault, has amassed more claims in addition to the women he was already representing. While T.I. and Tiny haven’t been charged, Blackburn would take a different approach if he could. “If I was a prosecutor, I’d have brought charges already,” Blackburn exclusively stated to The Daily Beast. Blackburn is representing 11 of the accusers, among which are eight who say they were...

Can TikTok Rule The 2021 Grammys?

By Emilee Lindner What determines a Grammy-winning tune? Is it how many weeks a ditty spent on the Billboard Hot 100, how much money it made, or how musically endearing an anonymous group of Recording Academy voters deems it to be? Consider them all. But when it comes to declaring last year’s cream of the crop, TikTok’s impact can’t be ignored. 2020 was the year of staying inside, adopting new hobbies, scrolling for hours, and TikTok taught us new ways to move our bodies as we limbered up to the latest dance trend. As screen time soared, so did the spins on viral tracks that would eventually make our collective quarantine memorable. And they weren’t determined by record labels or radio DJs. TikTok choreographers and creators became 2020’s tastemakers, sending songs both new and old soaring...

Watch Adventure Club’s Christian Srigley Chug a Grilled Chicken Smoothie

Why did the chicken cross the road? Probably to avoid Adventure Club‘s Christian Srigley, who once chugged a grilled chicken smoothie. Because he was “short on protein for the day,” Srigley hilariously plopped two chicken breasts into a blender and filled it with tap water. At one point, it looks like he also drops in a dollop of stevia, a natural sugar substitute. What ensues is an absolute demolition of poultry purée that will make your blood curdle. It’s no surprise that a slew of the duo’s EDM contemporaries hopped in the tweet’s reply section in utter shock and dismay. “im reporting this account,” wrote ARMNHMR, followed by a simple “I’m so angry” by Blanke, both of which are set to ap...

Lea Michele and Darren Criss The former Glee stars sang “Shallow” together on the sec...

Verzuz Founders Swizz Beatz & Timbaland Talk Triller Partnership: ‘This Puts a Light Back on Creatives’

The ultimate payoff, says Swizz Beatz, is “hearing everybody being so floored about having shares in the company and feeling like they belong. That’s the real currency. It’s going to take the creative to save the creative.” What initially attracted you to Triller? Swizz Beatz: The whole time that Tim and I were building this platform, we didn’t really have any plans from a monetization or even a business side. We never even built out the technology for it. It was more about wanting to do this from a celebration, educational side; to give people some life, love and happiness during these hard times with COVID-19. Then as the platform started growing it turned into a business with sponsors coming in and offers from people wanting to buy ownership in the company once w...
