MAG Inks Deal with Warner Warner Chappell Music has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with rising producer MAG (real name: Marcos Borrero), Billboard learned this week. MAG, short for “magnificent,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Producers chart (dated Dec. 12), thanks to seven production credits on Bad Bunny’s El Ultimo Tour del Mundo, including “Te Mudaste,” “Yo Visto Así,” “Haciendo Que Me Amas,” “Te Deseo Lo Mejor,” “Booker T,” “Maldita Pobreza,” and “La Droga.” He also produced “Trellas” and “Antes Que Se Acabe.” “MAG is an unbelievable talent and exactly the type of producer who we’re looking to add into the mix,” Ryan Press, Warner Chappell Music’s president of A&R for the U.S., said in a statement. “His wo...
Toward the end of “Love on Top,” Bey changes the lyric “baby” to “Lyric” in remembrance of her late fan. “Lyric it’s you/ You’re the one I love/ And you’re the one I need,” she sings. “You’re the only thing I see/ Come on Lyric it’s you/ You’re the one that gives your all/ You’re the one I can always call/ When I need you baby everything stops/ You put my love on top.” Beyonce concludes the tribute with a heartfelt, “I love you with all my heart.” In September, Lyric received a beautiful bouquet of white flowers from the 39-year-old mother of three after posting an adorable throwback video of herself singing the star’s 2011 hit “Love on Top.” “When the Q...
The former One Direction member continued, “So I’ve decided to put it out there in the world today. I’m going to start my own music management company to help develop new artists. Watch this space.” Tomlinson pointed out that the management company announcement is “the first step of actualising the idea but at this stage that’s all this is. An idea!” He also clarified in another tweet that his plans do not included forming a record label. In July 2020, Tomlinson announced that he had parted ways with Simon Cowell’s Syco. The artist had signed a solo recording contract with the label in 2017. “Hope everyone is doing ok! Just wanted to let you know that Syco Music and I have agreed to part ways,” Tomlinson tweeted at the time. IR...
Rage Against the Machine were forced to postpone their highly-anticipated reunion tour last year, and though they’re rescheduled to hit the road this June, Tim Commerford has made it clear that will only happen if the band can play to full venues. “We’ll never be one of these sellouts that’s gonna go play a drive-in show or play a venue that holds 100,000 people and there’s only 10,000 people there,” the bassist told TooFab earlier this week. “That’s bullshit. Rage will never do that. It’s not a good show unless the audience is going off, too. It’s gotta be a shared experience.” “It was already going to be something really special without getting into it, like we were doing things that we never done before, and we’re all better musicians than we’ve ever been before,” Co...
It’s a tale as old as time: young woman is traumatized, radicalized, and experimented upon; A.I. takes physical form as a robot before evolving into something more traditionally, distinctly human. Woman and humanoid robot fall in love before humanoid robot is killed and woman, in her grief, semi-accidentally takes an entire town of people hostage. Explaining the concept of WandaVision to anyone not familiar with the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe presents a bit of a challenge. Perhaps the even bigger challenge is then trying to communicate the way that the show so effectively becomes a truly emotional story. Over the course of nine episodes, WandaVision shares more about the two titular characters than the five movies that featured Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff or the seven in whi...
In Australia, the weekly average of COVID-19 cases has been in the single digits since January. As such, pre-pandemic normalcy has all but returned to the country — and that includes packed, maskless concerts. On Friday night, Tame Impala returned to the stage for the first of two Tame Impala Sound System sets in Perth. Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker conceived Tame Impala Sound System back when Australia was in quarantine, and subsequently debuted the project with a series of television performance and an appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk. These performance saw Parker and co. reimagine tracks from the band’s discography with synths, sequencers, and samplers. Or, as Parker himself describes it: “Wielding their overflowing arsenal of synths, sequencers and samplers to rework and reimagine trac...
Lil Durk was the musical guest on Friday night’s episode of Jimmy Fallon, performing a medley of his hits “Stay Down” and “Still Trappin’”. Both songs appear on his latest album, December’s The Voice. Atlanta singer 6LACK joined the Chicago rapper for “Stay Down”. After first coming to prominence as part of Chicago’s drill scene in the 2010s, Durk has experienced a career resurgence over the past two years. Since 2019, the 28-year-old rapper-singer has landed three Top 5 albums on the Billboard 200. The Voice has been his most successful album to date, landing atop Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Durk has also earned multiple songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Stay Down” and “Still Trappin’”. The latter song is a posthumous collaboration with the...
Eminem takes aim at cancel culture in the lyric video for “Tone Deaf,” the latest single off his 2020 album, Music To Be Murdered By — Side B. The animated clip puts the rapper’s controversial past on full display, as he blames his “alter-ego” for all his “evil thoughts” while refusing to tone down his lyrics. “I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey (I’m tone-deaf) / ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me,” Eminem tweeted about the video, showcasing one of its key lyrics. Earlier this week, a TikTok campaign called for Eminem’s cancellation after lyrics from his 2010 single with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” resurfaced, HotNewHipHop reported. In the song, Marshall Mathers raps “If you fucking leave again I’m strap you to this bed and set the house on fire.” The...
It seems like just yesterday Jim Jones and French Montana were constantly beefing on records, DVD’s, and in clubs because of Montana’s friendship with Max B. Now that they’re all grown and successful beyond their wildest dreams, Jones and French have squashed their drama and linked up for the visuals to “Bada Bing” where the two show it’s all love and can share the same space without trying to kill each other. We wonder if Jones will ever get on that kinda level with Max B. Probably not. Keeping the scene in NYC, Funk Flex releases his latest clip to “Damn Shame” where he calls on Jadakiss to hold him down in the city that never sleeps because, well, why not? They already both in NY. Might as well shoot the video there. Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from SZA, Big Sean ...
New Jersey-based electronic music producer Epsilon XI has unveiled Borderlands, a gorgeous new 7-track album. The producer, whose chose the Roman numeral in his name to reflect the month of November—the year his late sister was born—has delivered a nostalgic slice of electronic melancholia. Alongside fellow artist and producer Tony Appleseed of antFarm studio, XI recorded Borderlands from a satellite location using only his laptop, MIDI controller, guitar, a small interface, and his DAW. The raw nature of the recording process is evident throughout each of the album’s tracks, which blend electronic elements with indie sensibilities. A surefire standout from Borderlands is the record’s fourth track, “Shout Out.” Kicking off the song wit...
