Nas isn’t feeling threatened by the youngest generation of rappers. In a new interview with the Financial Times, the hip-hop veteran revealed that while he enjoys many of today’s rising stars, there’s “no one keeping me up at night.” Until relatively recently, hip-hop was considered a young person’s game. However, now that rappers such as the 47-year-old Nas have proven that they can carry out successful careers well into their middle-age, the competitive nature of the genre lends itself to playful generational warfare. During his interview with FT, which was mostly focused on his historic career and various business ventures, the Illmatic icon took a moment to share his thoughts on the rap titans of today — many of whom are more than half his age. “I appreciate what’s ...
A provocative work of street art appeared on the walls of Reading Prison on Monday, and now Banksy has claimed it as his own using a happy little video with Bob Ross. The image shows a prisoner sliding down bedsheets that are tied together and anchored by a typewriter. As the BBC reports, some observers have noted a resemblance between the escaping con and Reading’s most famous inmate Oscar Wilde, who was sentenced to two years hard labor for gross indecency with other men, and who celebrated his release with the poem “The Ballad of Reading Gaol”. While the graffiti appeared to be in Banksy’s style, the author wasn’t confirmed until today, March 4th, when the guerrilla artist shared a video called “Create Escape”. It used archival commentary from the late, great Bob Ross, overlaying his wo...
Source: PYMCA / Getty The pandemic lockdown hasn’t slowed Noname down one bit. This week, the Chicago native revealed that she’s building an official brick-and-mortar headquarters for her “Noname Book Club.” According to The Grio, the announcement first appeared on Instagram Stories where she shared images of an empty retail space undergoing construction on Monday (March 1). “Everything provided in this space will be FREE,” she explained on Instagram. “We service the community. We cannot wait for Biden or any other white supremacist political to provide for the people. Capitalism doesn’t end by itself. We have to start building a worker-led solidarity economy. The government would rather bomb Somalia than pay your rent.” In another photo, the rapper shared that the ...
Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital After turning states evidence against his former homies turned extorters and baby mama smashers, Tekashi 6ix9ine is looking to salvage whatever reputation he has left (he has none) by astonishingly claiming he’s not a snitch or a rat. No, seriously. The rap troll who went from being one of the most popular rappers in the game to the most prolific government informant in Hip-Hop history is now telling TMZ that he doesn’t consider working with the feds “snitching.” During a Live with TMZ, Tekashi justified his tattletale ways by invoking the “loyalty” argument and how his crew betrayed him first by kidnapping him, beating him and of course, robbing him of stacks of cash. After saying he has beefed with all coasts during his run (he did), Tekashi asks TMZ “D...
Source: SOPA Images / Getty It’s been long-rumored that Nintendo would be dropping a new Nintendo Switch model. This latest report is the closest thing to a confirmation of said model we have gotten yet. Bloomberg reports Nintendo will be dropping an upgraded Switch model this year with an OLED screen. According to the report, Samsung Display will be supplying the 7-inch 720p rigid OLED panel, and it will go into mass production sometime in June. The current Nintendo Switch model has a 6.2-inch 720p LCD panel, while the Nintendo Switch Lite sports a 5.5-inch 720p LCD. One of the biggest complaints about the current Nintendo Switch model is that it has a hard time running many games at a native resolution while being used in handheld mode. Bloomberg states in its report that the ...
One might be the loneliest number, but for Challenge competitor CT, it’s a digit with which he’s expertly familiar. But for the first time in a long time, the three-time champ softened to his Double Agents teammate Big T and vowed to keep her as an ally until the game’s end. However, old habits die hard, and on tonight’s episode, CT kicked Big T to the curb, told her she was too weak to run the final and made a showy demonstration of his preference for Kam. After winning a souped-up version of “Dead Ringer” in The Crater as part of host TJ Lavin’s shocking Security Breach, CT and Darrell — who earned Gold Skulls by knocking out Josh and Devin, respectively — earned the choice to either keep their partners or trade them for new ones. While Darrell quickly vowed to stick things out wit...
The good news: Drake‘s got a new release lined up for tonight at midnight (March 5). The bad news: It’s not Certified Lover Boy, the rapper’s long-delayed sixth studio album he first announced would be dropping in the summer of 2020. The LP is still on ice (for now), but in the meantime, he’s giving us another installment of Scary Hours, likely similar to the EP of the same name he released in 2018. On Instagram, Drake teased the artwork, including two blue diamonds in the center, possibly suggesting the latest Scary Hours release may be a two-pack, as the 2018 installment was. If this all feels like déjà vu, that’s because it kind of is. In January 2018, Drake dropped the first Scary Hours EP, featuring “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Imm...
By Ilana Kaplan An eponymous album marks a major moment in an artist’s career. For women, owning one’s work, body, and artistry can be especially powerful, even political. Throughout Women’s History Month, MTV News is highlighting some of these iconic statements from some of the biggest artists on the globe. This is Self-Titled. Several images have defined Britney Spears throughout her career: debuting distressed in a (then) controversial, edgy Catholic school-girl outfit about how her loneliness is killing her; steamy in white, kissing Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards; distraught and battling her mental health and tabloid culture as she beat a paparazzo’s car with an umbrella a few years later. But one particular scene stands out as a cultural reset for the sta...

After the massive success of “Taki Taki,” DJ Snake and Selena Gomez have once again joined forces for a moombah-pop hit. While “Selfish Love” was marketed as a follow-up to Snake and Gomez’s 4x Platinum smash, it strikes a more sultry tone than its banging predecessor, which also features Ozuna and Cardi B. Eschewing the thick subs and club-driven sound design that pervade “Taki Taki,” the Parisian beatsmith opts for sultry saxophones in the chorus for a smooth, chilled out bedroom jam. “Selfish Love” is the cognac to “Taki Taki”‘s Four Loko. The track explores a cat-and-mouse relationship where the two partners enjoy making each other jealous. “Tú quiere’ a mis celos,” Gomez sings in the ch...
