St. Vincent Announces New Album, Daddy’s Home, Releases ‘Pay Your Way in Pain’

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for a new St. Vincent album since 2017’s award-winning Masseduction (and the reimagined versions of the album that followed it), you won’t have to wait much longer. Daddy’s Home, the sixth album from art rocker Annie Clark, will be out on May 14 on Loma Vista Recordings. But as Clark teased on social media earlier this week, fans won’t have to wait any longer to hear a sample of the new album. “Pay Your Way in Pain” is available immediately, and channels all of the unquestionably funky unique stylings that have made St. Vincent one of the biggest and best rock stars of the past decade. It also captures a vibe that’s distinctly the era of a New York City that’s long gone (1971-1975) when grit and grime ruled the day. Check out the new track belo...

Tom Morello Considers Ted Nugent a Friend Despite Polar Opposite Political Beliefs

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello opened up about his unlikely friendship with rocker Ted Nugent during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show. Morello said he still considers Nugent a friend despite their opposing political beliefs. The RATM guitarist’s views are firmly on the left, while the gun-toting Nugent is about as far to the right as can be. Morello called Donald Trump an “orange-faced demagogue.” Meanwhile, the Nuge defended the former president following the Capitol insurrection, instead blaming Antifa and Black Lives Matter for the violent riot. Despite being polar opposites politically, Morello said he instead focused on their similarities as worldclass guitarists and staunch free-speech advocates. “For his 60th birthday, someone reached out to me and said, ...

Justice’s Record Label Suggests Justin Bieber Knowingly Ripped Off Their Logo

Last week, Justin Bieber shared the cringe-worthy artwork for his new album, Justice. Looking like an overblown ’90s photoshop job, the image includes a not-so-subtle celebration of the pop star’s Christian faith by using a cross for the “t” in the title. If that little biblical ode gives you the same vibes as the logo for electronic duo Justice, you’re not alone. In fact, the French artists themselves noted the stark resemblance — and it turns out Bieber’s team actually contacted Justice’s management about working together on the graphic last year — before going silent. “Bieber’s team emailed us in May of 2020, asking to be looped in with Justice’s graphic designer to discuss a logo,” Justice’s management told SPIN. “We tried to set up a call between Bieber’s team and our designer, but th...

Small Black Share New Single “The Bridge”: Stream

Over five years after delivering their last full-length, 2015’s Best Blues, Small Black are set to return next month with a new album called Cheap Dreams. Early singles “Duplex” and “Tampa” arrived over the last few months, and now the chillwave pioneers are back with “The Bridge”. Built off a patiently sanguine piano line, “The Bridge” is an ode to Rockaway Beach, a favorite oasis for New York escapists. For those spending most of their time in the concrete jungle of the boroughs, it’s a magical slice of Atlantic coastline, and the song’s dreamy longing transports listeners right back to those shores. As singer Josh Kolenik explained in a statement, the lyrics are specifically from the point of view of his Uncle Matt, an individual Small Black fans may recognize from the band’s first-ever...

Metallica Celebrate Master of Puppets Anniversary by Crushing “Battery” on Colbert: Watch

With Wednesday (March 3rd) marking the 35th anniversary of their landmark album Master of Puppets, Metallica returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to celebrate the iconic LP. The metal masters performed one of the thrash masterpiece’s standout tracks, “Battery”. Metallica really couldn’t have gone wrong with any song off the 1986 album. As we pointed out in our new retrospective piece on Master of Puppets, the band’s third LP is all killer, no filler from front to back. In fact, it’s arguably the greatest thrash metal album ever made. Positioned next to a graphic of the Master of Puppets album cover, Stephen Colbert introduced the performance by saying, “Their album Master of Puppets was released 35 years ago today, and had such an impact that it was added to the National Recordin...

Laura Pausini on Giving Voice to ‘Icon’ Sophia Loren & Winning the Golden Globe

“I heard the song in English [titled ‘Seen’] and immediately felt a very strong connection,” says Pausini, who is fluent in English. Pausini got together with Niccolò Agliardi and wrote the Italian translation of the song, “Io Si,” for the film. On Sunday, Warren, along with Pausini and Agliari, won the Golden Globe for best original song for “Io Sì (Seen),” adding to a lineup of hardware that also includes four Latin Grammys. Which begins to explain why Pausini wasn’t content with only recording this song in Italian. “I decided to also do it in four other languages, because I wanted everyone to understand the meaning behind ‘Io Si.’ It was very important to me,” she says. She translated the lyrics to Portuguese and Spanish, and also recorded ...
