Charli XCX posted a 17-second snippet of “Spinning,” the debut single from her supergroup with No Rome and The 1975 on Wednesday (March 3). The track, a dancefloor-ready banger due out on Thursday (March 4), has been teased out for months, years really. Way back in 2019, The 1975 singer Matty Healy let is slip that he was working with Charli, telling fans he produced a track with No Rome and 1975 drummer George Daniel. Earlier this week, Charli posted an Instagram pic of a carton version of herself on a psychedelic background, writing, “formed a supergroup with @no_rome @trumanblack & @bedforddanes75 our song spinning drops march 4th ✨ pre save at the link in my bio ☁️ get ready for the cutest video of all time ☺️...
Gucci model, COVID–anthem creator and punk Godfather Iggy Pop teamed with storied Hammond B-3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith to cover Donovan’s 1966 hit “Sunshine Superman.” The song will appear on Smith’s forthcoming album Breathe, which arrives March 26 on Blue Note. “I was playing with my trio at Arts Garage in Delray Beach in Florida,” Smith said a statement. “Iggy would come by and say he wanted to play with me. I let him play slaparoo and he loved it. He enjoyed playing with us. We thought about recording a few songs, so we went in with my trio backing us up, and it worked.” It is the companion album to Smith’s 2018 LP All in My Mind. Smith was a member of the George Benson quartet in the 1960s, and has performed with Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Etta James. The eight...
Last week, Justin Bieber announced the title for his new album, Justice, but the artwork for it looks awfully similar to the logo for a certain Grammy-winning electronic duo. Justice is set to be the pop star’s sixth studio album. An outspoken Christian, Bieber leans into his faith, marking the “t” in the word as a cross. The only problem? We’ve seen this before. It’s the same design French duo Justice has used for its official logo since forming in 2003. SPIN reached out to the duo’s management for comment, who responded with the following: “Bieber’s team emailed us in May of 2020, asking to be looped in with Justice’s graphic designer to discuss a logo. We tried to set up a call between Bieber’s team and our designer, but the call was never completed and the conversation ended there...
The ska-punk legends in The Mighty Mighty BossToneS (whose capitalization habits suggest that they’re fans of the Mocking SpongeBob meme) just announced their 11th studio album, When God Was Great, will be out on May 7 on Hellcat Records. Of course, the band most famous for never needing to knock on wood wasn’t about to tease fans with the announcement of a new album without dropping a new song, so the veterans also released “I DON’T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING.” Perhaps their caps lock got stuck while creating the new album’s tracklist, as all 15 tunes read like frontman Dicky Barrett is yelling them at you. “We were lightly writing songs before the insanity without any sort of timeline in mind. All of a sudden, the world changed and benchmark events in a very long career that we were lookin...
It’s not easy to describe Little Nightmares and its sequel to someone who’s never played it before, but “Imagine if Tim Burton made a stealth-focused puzzle-filled platformer” probably isn’t too far off the mark. The 2017 title from Tarsier Studios (and its newly released sequel, Little Nightmares II) is definitely creepy — there’s no two ways about that — but it doesn’t rely on realistic gory visuals or sudden jump scares to do it. Instead, Little Nightmares visually looks more like a deranged Pixar movie or a non-holiday-oriented Nightmare Before Christmas than it does a modern horror game. But beyond the spooky, yet charming, appearance, Little Nightmares’ smooth gameplay and surprisingly deep narrative has earned it a surprisingly large dedicated fan base that eagerly awaited last mont...
Canadian singer-songwriter Kandle, daughter of Neil Osborne of the alt-rock band 54-40, notes Nancy Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Shirley Bassey as her influences, but there’s no doubt every line she writes and sings comes from her heart. There’s a refreshing lack of underproduction and honest realness to her performances, making them vulnerable and intoxicating. Her EP Birds, all Neil Young covers, features six of his most heart-wrenching hits, including “Only Love Can Break Your Heart.” Accompanied by longtime friend, acclaimed fiddler and vocalist Kendel Carson, Birds reinvents these beautiful classics, infusing them with striking harmonies and Kandle’s signature style. Kandle’s new album Set the Fire illustrates Kandle’s musical dexterity, but is no less authentic and arresting, st...
Pete Yorn had big plans this time last year — before the pandemic shut down life as we know it. Like many musicians, the singer-songwriter was ready to work on new material, his first batch of originals since 2019’s Caretakers. But he put those plans on hold, and they’ve been there ever since. But rather than sitting around bored in his Los Angeles-enclave, Yorn got to work in other ways. In addition to playing a series of livestreams, he dug into his lengthy archives from over the years. Once he mined through those, he unearthed several projects that have been sitting dormant, including some live albums, a concert film and his new covers album. Yorn fans know that he’s not afraid to bust out a Springsteen or Smiths tune at his live shows — those two happen to be his biggest...

In a new interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio, Wolf Hoffmann admitted that he became disillusioned with the heavy metal scene more than 20 years ago and pursued other interests until the band’s eventual reformation. “There was a time when actually ACCEPT didn’t exist — from about ’97 to 2009 or whatever,” the guitarist said (see video below). “That’s over 10 years when we didn’t exist, and I basically walked away from the music business for a long time. I became a photographer. And then music got me back. And here I am, full force, in music again, the last 10 years nothing but touring, recording — all that kind of stuff. But there definitely was a time when I thought metal is over, and I kind of lost interest there for a while in t...
On March 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT, legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen will take part in a one-night only exclusive livestream event — complete with full, live band — from the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets can be purchased at yngwie.veeps.com. Yngwie‘s latest album, “Blue Lightning”, came out in March 2019 via Mascot Label Group. On the disc, Yngwie paid homage to those from the blues world who have fueled his artistic spirit for so long. “Blue Lightning” also included four original tunes that bring to the fore Malmsteen‘s love for the blues. “I have always featured songs with a blues groove on albums,” he said in a press release. “So, having my own material in this vein was very natural for me.”...
In a new interview with Cleveland.com, Paul Stanley once again confirmed that KISS‘s “End Of The Road” tour is the last time fans will get to see the band perform live. “Mortality and physicality and the finite nature of life makes you realize at some point there are certain things that can’t be done forever,” he noted. “And running around in eight-inch platform boots, wearing 30 or 40 pounds of gear is one of them. So better that we acknowledge that and get a chance to spend one more evening with the people who have supported us. This is an opportunity for us to know that this is the last go-round and appreciate it together with the fans. “And as soon as the coast is clear, we’ll come back,” he added, referring to the fact that t...
