After an impressive surge of releases over the past year, Vancouver DJ Nostalgix is back with a boisterous bass house track called “Boom.” Released via Thrive Music, the track serves as her first single of the year. In accordance with her 90s “nostalgic” vibe, the tune nods to 90s rap with a bass house twist. “Boom” applies a pounding bassline, crisp hi hats, and screeching synths for an energetic feel. Combined with the fierce rap stylings of D’Aaron Anthony, the tune is tailored for a riotous dance floor. Listen to the song in full below. “I’m so happy to share this record with you all,” Nostalgix said on her social media. “When I was making ‘Boom’ I wanted to really capture the idea of being a bigger version of yourself and letting yourself shine. To walk in the room and have all e...
As the latest Bitcoin and cryptocurrency hype cycle has gripped investors and driven a whole new wave of adoption to the space, Duncan and Griffin Cock Foster find themselves at the epicenter. The twin brothers and entrepreneurs have helped spearhead a meteoric trend in the digital asset space with their company Nifty Gateway, a marketplace for digital art and collectibles called NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, which are collectible assets authenticated and secured by blockchain technology. A few years ago, the idea of collectors purchasing digitally minted art pieces to the tune of thousands and sometimes even millions of dollars would have seemed ludicrous. However, as public comfort and interest in blockchain technology has only continued to rise, cultural influencers—especially musicians...

In the wake of the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, the pop star’s father Jamie Spears has faced renewed scrutiny over his conservatorship of her estate. Through his attorney, Jamie has now responded to calls that he step aside, telling CNN that he would “love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship.” Spears’ lawyer Vivian Lee Thoreen also offered her client’s perspective on the recent court tussles over the $60 million estate. Last month, a judge ruled that Bessemer Trust would serve as a co-conservator alongside Jamie. At the time, reporting suggested that this happened despite the elder Spears’ objections. “Jamie never contested or objected to Bessemer being appointed as his co-conservator,” Thoreen contended. “And at the last hearing...
After dropping a handful of standalone singles, Rostam has announced a new solo album is on the way. It’s called Changephobia and it’s due out June 4th via Matsor Projects/Secretly Distribution. Best of all, you can stream a new track from the record, titled “4Runner”, below. Changephobia spans 11 tracks in total, including the previously release singles “These Kids We Knew” and “Unfold You”, which Rostam used to explore new-to-him sounds like retro bebop and ’90s neo-psych rock. Not only is it the ex-Vampire Weekend member’s third studio album, but it’s also his first full-length LP in four years following 2017’s Half-Light. He’s equally picky when it comes to his own work, saying he’ll often spend months thinking of lyrics to sing on top of beats he’s made. But last year, while recovering from COVID-19, Rostam rather quickly wrote what became the lead single on his upcoming second album, Changephobia, out June 4 on Matsor Projects (via Secretly Distribution). “That one came right out of me,” he says of the spacious alternative-rock song, titled “These Kids We Knew,” which is broadly about global warming. “I also felt certain that it wasn’t going to be on my album, but I think that’s a classic situation. I remember the first time Frank Ocean played me ‘Nikes,’ he was like, ‘This is not for my album, this is not from my album.’ And then when the album came out...
