On Saturday, February 27, LACUNA COIL was among around 130 Italian artists and venues who participated in an initiative dubbed “L’Ultimo Concerto?” (Last Concert) to highlight the increasingly uncertain future of music venues. Instead of delivering live performances as part of a scheduled free virtual stream, each artist was filmed taking the stage at a different venue and then standing there in silence as a way of commemorating the one-year mark since the first Italian venues closed. Organized by KeepOn Live, Arci, Assomusica and Live DMA, the campaign was announced last month when the venues shared images on social media of their year of foundation and the year 2021 with a question mark, suggesting that their closures due to the coronavirus pandemic could be permanent. ...
Katy Perry, J Balvin and another surprise artist will each release a song inspired by the Pokémon franchise, along with a music video and merchandise collection. J Balvin commented on taking part in the project in a statement released on Saturday: “Pokémon is pulling out all the stops for P25 Music, and I’m thrilled to join the program as one of its premier collaborators,” he said. “I’m looking forward to adding my own unique flavor to this huge Pokémon party and adding more good vibes to the celebration.” Pokémon 25: The Album, part of this year’s P25 Music program for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, will be released by UMG’s Capitol Records. Saturday night’s concert can be watched on-demand on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. You Deserve t...
J Balvin released the first single from his upcoming album with a bang. Literally. After a little under an hour, D’Angelo breezily walked on the Ciroc-loaded stage with a cigarette in hand, a black mink coat on his back, and a tall, wide-brimmed hat on his head. “Peace and love, everybody,” he calmly declared, welcoming viewers to a deeply intimate evening with D’Angelo. He informed the audience that they would be the friends, opting for the concert route rather than a traditional 1v1 setting. He kicked off the night with a performance featuring trumpet player Keyon Harrold (of his backing band The Vanguard), then transitioned to the fan favorite Smokey Robinson cover “Cruisin” from 1995 debut album Brown Sugar — to instant delight from viewers. After D’Angelo and DJ Scratch collaborated in performing the singer’s most celebrated early reco...

Astralwerks and Blue Note Records are joining forces to usher in a new wave of lo-fi with their collaborative series, Bluewerks. The two Universal Music properties have released their first offering, Bluewerks Vol. 1: Up Down Left Right, a showcase of tunes intersecting the worlds of electronic music and jazz. To kick things off, the project received an introduction from one of the most famous voices in dance music, Pete Tong. The compilation features a slew of pleasantly evolving instrumental soundscapes, ideal for unwinding the mind. Diverse jazz arrangements take center focus on this project as rich, expansive synth pads fill the space with colorful background energy. From the echoing stringed reverberations of Zmeyev‘s “Chilled Room” to the smooth lang...
Big Boi, Chromeo, and Dillon Francis each took on the ambitious task of remixing none other than The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley, breathing new life into three of his classics. The new versions created from Elvis’ originals recorded between 1964 and 1970 are nothing short of transformative. Each producer has paired Elvis’ original vocals with their own signature sonics with seemingly effortless ability and cohesion. Chromeo established a new foundation of funk with their remix of “Clean Up Your Own Backyard.” The storytelling single continues to spotlight Presley’s vocals but the duo turns up the brightness with the inclusion of uplifting trumpet fanfare, filtered synths, and a pumping stringed bassline. Big Boi works his mag...
With the landmark $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package now in the hands of the Senate, financial aid for struggling families and businesses is almost within reach. In fact, the embedded Save Our Stages Act earmarks $15 billion in grants to music and arts venues. But for New York City’s nightlife, this eleventh hour support may have missed the boat. Small restaurants and bars have been hit especially hard by the pandemic, and New York Post now reports even the city’s top club owners have also been drastically affected by both closures and brand pivots. Butter Group, which owns the iconic 1Oak brand, recently shuttered its Up & Down venture in West Village. The Tao Group, which owns properties worldwide, has also permanently closed two of its five ...
Dillon Francis made his Audius debut this week, uploading his high-energy remix of Daft Punk‘s turn-of-the-century hit “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” The shocking news of Daft Punk’s retirement evidently inspired Francis to take immediate action by re-sharing his remix of one of the duo’s most iconic hits, which he dropped back in 2014. Francis’ rework slowly turns up the heat, first speeding up the cadence of the funk house original before finally showing his cards. A sudden turbulent flurry of risers gives way to hard-hitting 808s and intricately rearranged robotic vocal chops. Francis doesn’t hesitate to lean on the distortion, adding a tangible bite to the track. The “Be Somebody” producer brought the remix to fans in a hurry w...
During a recent appearance on “The Dan Chan Show”, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson offered an update on the progress of the recording sessions for the band’s follow-up to 2016’s “Dystopia” album. He said (hear audio below): “The new MEGADETH album is almost done — rounding the corners into the ‘final final.’ It’s funny, ’cause we’d kind of been working on it for four years. Look, COVID, of course, last year changed the course of everything, and Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH leader] went through throat cancer treatments the year before that, 2019. So, there have been some diversions. But at the same time, the record’s always been being worked on.” He continued: “It’s funny — my view is that it’s...
SION, the new project featuring former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Howard Jones and modern guitar virtuoso/content creator Jared Dines, will release its debut single and accompanying music video, “The Blade“, on March 11. A short teaser for the track is available below. Speaking about how their collaboration came about, Dines told Rock Feed: “Way back [in] 2018 was the TRIVIUM tour that I filled in for that Howard was on with his band LIGHT THE TORCH. And, of course, we met and we talked and we just kind of randomly started talking [about working together]. I think Howard mentioned, ‘Down the road, let’s maybe talk about doing something.’ And, of course, I was, like, ‘Yeah, that sounds awesome.’ So that’s kind of where it started. And then...
