The track is taken LOVE AND DEATH‘s latest album, “Perfectly Preserved”, which arrived on the same day via Earache Records. “Perfectly Preserved” is described in a press release as “a blistering but accessible full-length follow-up, driven by the spiritual resilience inherent in the first record, combined with an even starker depiction of real-life struggle.” Anger, broken relationships, lowered self-worth, and the collision of optimistic values with oppressive systems are all on display, from the arresting refrains of “Tragedy”, “Death Of UsR...

BLACK SABBATH: Listen To ‘Lady Evil’ And ‘Die Young’ From ‘Heaven And Hell’ And ‘Mob Rules’ Deluxe Editions

Singer Ronnie James Dio joined BLACK SABBATH in 1979 which resulted in two back-to-back classic albums: “Heaven And Hell” and “Mob Rules”. On those memorable albums, Dio‘s soaring tenor and gothic songwriting were the perfect foil for the band’s bone-crushing mix of razor-sharp riffs, intense grooves, and dark imagery. Rhino salutes the long shadow cast by this short-lived lineup with newly remastered versions of both albums expanded with rare and unreleased music. “Heaven And Hell: Deluxe Edition” and “Mob Rules: Deluxe Edition” will be released separately on March 5. Each album will be available on 2-CDs ($19.98), or a 2-LPs ($31.98). Due to space constraints, both vinyl editions include a selection of bonus material from the CD...

Initially released in December 1967 and described latterly by Rolling Stone as “THE WHO‘s finest album,” “The Who Sell Out” reflected a remarkable year in popular culture. As well as being forever immortalized as the moment when the counterculture and the “Love Generation” became a global phenomenon and “pop” began metamorphosing into “rock.” The new Super Deluxe Edition of “The Who Sell Out” features 112 tracks, 46 of which are unreleased, an 80-page, hard-back, full-color book, including rare period photos, memorabilia, track-by-track annotation and new sleeve notes by Pete Townshend with comments from the likes of Pete Drummond (Radio London DJ), Richard Evans (designer) and Roy Flynn (the Speakeasy club manag...

Based on conversations with governors in key U.S. states, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino is optimistic that large-scale American concerts are closer than ever to returning. He said that “a clear outline to a 75% to 100%” capacity for outdoor U.S. events in 2021 was looking likely to be green-lit.” Speaking on Live Nation’s Q4 2020 earnings call and as reported by Music Business Insider, Rapino said, “[We] think we’re better off waiting for a high bar capacity moment in most of the states to ramp up and talk to the artists about getting paid properly.” Rapino added that the prospect capacity re-opening in the largest U.S. markets with over 75% capacity was “within sight.” “We are seeing… what we’ve been talking about: [fans] are excited to get back to the show as soon as we get the green li...

Neill Blomkamp Says He’s Writing a District 10 Screenplay

Looks like the sweetie man is coming back. Neill Blomkamp has confirmed that he’s currently working on the screenplay for District 10, the long-awaited sequel to his 2009 breakthrough District 9. In a tweet, the filmmaker revealed that Sharlto Copley, who also starred in the original, and Terri Tatchell, Blomkamp’s wife and frequent collaborator, are co-writing the script with him. “It’s coming,” Blomkamp promised. District 9 established Blomkamp as an auteur sci-fi filmmaker with a keen sense of world building and special effects. The movie was a hit, grossing over $210 million globally on a budget of just $30 million, winning praise for its found-footage storytelling and allegorical commentary on xenophobia and apartheid. However, Blomkamp has been unable to recreate the success since th...

Melvins Celebrate 1983 Lineup on Noisy Riff Fest Working with God: Review

The Lowdown: At this point in their lengthy career, the Melvins are out to entertain themselves as much as their audience. This has included fruitful solo projects from founding members Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover, as well as alternate versions of the band itself such as Melvins Lite and Melvins 1983 — the latter being a modern take on an early Melvins lineup. The “Melvins 1983” lineup is featured on the new album Working with God, with Osborne on vocals and guitar, Crover on bass, and original drummer Mike Dillard back in the fold. The LP is the trio’s second album in this format, and like the first, it sees the Melvins reveling in copious riffage and lowbrow humor. After all, they were teenagers when they formed the band. The Good: Technically, the band’s 1983 lineup includ...

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker: Daft Punk’s Split Was Like Hearing “About Someone That’s Died”

On Monday, Daft Punk shook the music world by announcing their breakup. One famous fan who was particularly heartbroken is Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker, who recently compared his reaction to hearing about the duo’s split as akin to “someone’s that’s died.” “I guess I wasn’t expecting to be as emotional as I was, especially because I watched the video they released, that kind of eight-minute thing, which I think has already been on a movie of theirs, obviously re-contextualized for them announcing their split-up, but it really moved me,” he said, in an interview with Apple Music’s Matt Wilkinson. “Yeah, it shook me. It was almost like when you hear about someone that’s died. I know it’s obviously not nearly as tragic as when someone dies, but that kind of shock.” Even so, Parker went...

Sabaton Unveil Music Video for New Song “Livgardet”: Stream

Swedish military historian metallers Sabaton have unveiled the music video for new song “Livgardet”, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Swedish Royal Guard. The track is the first new music from Sabaton since their 2019 album, The Great War. Once again, the band look toward history and heroism for inspiration, this time focusing on the feats of Sweden’s longstanding guard. Appropriately, the band don period-centric regalia for the music video and accompanying press photo. And for the first time in years, Sabaton have penned a song in their native Swedish language. “Since 2012 and Carolus Rex, we have been looking forward to writing more songs in Swedish, and we felt that we were not done with the history of our fatherland,” bassist and co-songwriter Pär Sundström said in a press re...
