Dr. Frasier Crane to Resume Listening in New Reboot for Paramount+

After three years spent on hold, a reboot of Frasier is finally coming to air. Via The Hollywood Reporter, star Kelsey Grammer will be reprising his role in a sequel series on Paramount+. Grammer has been pushing a revival since at least 2018. But the salad remained untossed and the eggs unscrambled until earlier this month, when reports surfaced that Grammer and CBS/VIacom had joined together at the negotiating table. On Wednesday, ViacomCBS finally announced the reboot as a go. Grammer sounds understandably excited about returning to the role he first originated on Cheers in 1984. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” he said. “I...

Paramount+ Reviving Rugrats and The Fairly OddParents

As part of its kids and family programming, Paramount+ is rebooting two iconic children’s TV series: Rugrats and The Fairly OddParents. The original Rugrats voice cast is set to return for an all new CG-animated series set to air in 2021. That includes E.G. Daily (Tommy), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie), Cheryl Chase (Angelica), Cree Summer (Susie), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil). Rugrats originally ran on Nickelodeon for nine seasons between 1991 and 2004. The show also spawned several theatrical films, TV movies, and a spin-off series called Rugrats All Grown Up!. A new live-action/CGI hybrid film had initially been announced by Paramount Pictures, but those plans will ultimately abandoned in favor of an episodic series on Paramount +. Perhaps more intriguing is the return of The Fairly ...

Behind the Music, Unplugged, Yo! MTV Raps! and Dave Grohl Coming to Paramount+

Well, that’s one way to make an entrance. Paramount+, the latest streamer to hit the marketplace, is going back to the ’90s to relive music programming’s heyday. As part of its initial lineup, Paramount+ announced on Wednesday that it is bringing back late ’90s favorites like Behind the Music, MTV Unplugged, Yo! MTV Raps and even Beavis and Butt-Head. No, 1995 didn’t call, but it sure seems like it. Dave Grohl is also involved. Teaming up with his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, the Foo Fighter will produce a new six-part series titled From Cradle to Stage, which also happened to be the title of his mother’s book that featured stories from other music moms and released a few years ago. The series will take a look at the relationships between mothers and t...

Spotify Takes on $1.3B in Debt

Exactly how Spotify intends to use the money is unclear. The press release broadly states the company intends to use the proceeds for “general corporate purposes” — a term loose enough to cover capital expenditures, marketing or strategic acquisitions. Such a large amount suggests Spotify doesn’t intend to use the money for everyday costs of running the company. Instead, $1.3 billion is enough to make numerous acquisitions to build out its podcasting business, for example, and have a cushion for any uncertainty its leadership foresees in 2021 and beyond. Spotify will reserve the right to redeem the notes in a variety of scenarios. Until March 20, 2024, Spotify has the option to redeem the notes with cash, shares or a combination of the two if the company’s share price “exceeds 130% o...

Julien Baker Embraces the Darkness on Little Oblivions

When Julien Baker toured in support of 2017’s delicately devastating Turn Out The Lights, her audiences stood suspended in time. No cheers or sing-alongs, just several hundred bodies frozen in arrest, observing the solo songwriter as she wailed tunes of broken love, tattered faith and crumbling mental health.  While much of Baker’s new LP, Little Oblivions, hits similarly soul-ravaging notes, its accompanying stage show — whenever it comes — will be forced to liven up, emboldened by the ripe drum samples and swirling synth that drive the Memphis artist’s new sound. Hell, people may even dance!  The robust arrangements, plucking from modern rock and Americana, do well to mask what is easily Baker’s most candid, heartrending lyricism yet — an unflinching gaze into the mirror, with ...

Chanel West Coast Debuts New Music Video For ‘Eazy’

Chanel West Coast just dropped a video for “one of her favorite records.” In the brand-new clip for “Eazy” from her debut album America’s Sweetheart, the Ridiculousness star/rapper is joined by Anaya Lovenote and Salma Slims (as seen in the clip below). “‘Eazy’ is one of my favorite records off my album, so I had to make sure the visual was an absolute vibe,” Chanel told Complex. “I wanted the video to have the feel of a ’90s skate video, and I think my boy Damien Sandoval did an amazing job executing my vision.” She added: “My girls Anaya Lovenote and Salma Slims blessed the song for me, and you can see the love, respect and chemistry we have for each other in real life in the video. It was also an honor that skateboarding legends like...

20 Years Later, Life Without Buildings Share Their Voice With A New Generation

By Loren DiBlasi Two decades have passed, and Life Without Buildings still sound like freedom. Hear the band’s sole full-length record, Any Other City, once and it’ll never leave you — its lush, syrupy warmth oozes from your ears to your insides and stays there, like a glowing flame that never goes out. What keeps it crackling? Soft, sustained rhythms that toss and turn with gentle fervor, snaps of sharp, sparkling guitar, and a voice — a bizarre, beautiful cadence unmatched then and now — that’s strikingly naive yet bursting with profound wisdom. “No details! But I’m gonna persuade you!” singer Sue Tompkins swears in a clear, confident shout at the record’s outset, and yeah, you’re immediately convinced. It’s not what she says, exactly, but the heartfelt abandon with which she says it. Re...
