Ken Casey and I are rivals. No, not really. But our high schools were, less than eight miles apart or about 20 minutes away—if you take 93 South, Route 1 South, 95 North or Route 128, as the locals still call it. It’s all the same freaking road, which may very well be the most Boston thing ever. Or maybe, quite possibly, the Dropkick Murphys are the most Boston thing ever: their accents, their influences, their continued devotion to community, defined by undying loyalty and a heart as complex and intricate as a Boston downtown cobblestoned street map. This Celtic punk band formed originally in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996 is as Irish-Boston as they come, defined by their shit-kicking special brew of passion and sentimentality, even when they’re singing about getting drunk or punching you ...

After the crushing loss of electronic music icon SOPHIE last month, artists from all ends of the music community united together to mourn collectively and share their favorite moments with the late artist. Her far-reaching influence can be attributed to her unique manipulation of sonics and her persistent sense of self, inspiring young creators—especially those holding LGBTQ+ identities—to feel comfortable in their own skin and pursue their dreams. SOPHIE’s work received large-scale recognition in 2018, when her debut album, Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. At the same time, she was also a prolific producer, assisting a plethora of iconic names in the studio over the years. To celeb...
Israeli producer Antduan struck gold last year when he released his instrumental single “Rain Drops.” The track rose to the top of the Techno Charts on Apple Music in Europe and is now going to receive new life in 2021. Antduan has called upon Alexandra Badoi—a Romanian singer-songwriter and Armin van Buuren collaborator—to release a vocal version of the single, which will arrive on March 12th via BEAT2SOUL. After witnessing the success of the original instrumental version, Antduan had to see how the track would play out with vocals. Badoi was the perfect addition to the hypnotic single, infusing a melodic layer over its techno and trance stylings. In the short teaser below, you can hear Antduan’s inspiration from dance music legends such as Paul Oake...
Legendary electronic duo Daft Punk has officially split up after 28 years. They broke the news to fans with a heartbreaking excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma. Fittingly titled “Epilogue,” the 8-minute video signals the end of Daft Punk and echoes the melancholia of the conclusion of the most pioneering act in dance music history. The video shows the duo behind Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, walking through a desert until Bangalter eventually stops walking altogether. He then sheds his Daft Punk jacket and turns around to reveal a power box. Conflicted with switching on the self-destruct sequence, de Homem-Christo finally does and watches Bangalter walk away. After 60 short seconds, the robot explodes in...
While the idea of an up-and-coming artist holding a day job is nothing new, it’s not every day you hear about a doctor who moonlights as a DJ. Enter DJ Bodalia, a British doctor who just so happens to mix on the side. He’s combined his passion for providing care to the public and his love of dance music in a new initiative he calls “NHSessions.” On Instagram, he shared a video explaining his story to BBC News. When speaking with The Guardian, DJ Bodalia explained what it was like working in a hospital during the early days of the pandemic. He would then go on to share how he wanted to start his livestream program in an effort to raise spirits during the tough times. It was really physically and emotionally challenging, we had to learn at such a quick ...
David Lee Roth has shared several new pieces of original artwork, including his latest which was apparently inspired by the recently reported large decline in new COVID-19 cases in the U.S. Check them out below. For most of the last year, the VAN HALEN singer has been posting paintings on his Twitter account that reflect the times and channel the mass anxiety around the novel coronavirus. This is not the first time Roth has shared some of his visual art with the public. Back in 2009, Roth released dozens of his own drawings and artwork, which he called at the time “authentic originals and incompetent imitations.” He offered them up as “an official answer to the question ‘what do you do in your spare time?'” According to the Van Halen News Desk, the VAN HALEN f...
AC/DC‘s Angus Young has shot down a long-standing rumor that the band’s late frontman Bon Scott was involved in the songwriting process of several of the “Back In Black” tracks prior to his untimely death in early 1980. “Bon never really got the chance,” the guitarist told Paste magazine in a new interview. “At the time, me and [founding AC/DC rhythm guitarist] Malcolm [Young] were writing songs, which became the songs for ‘Back In Black’. We were in London in a rehearsal room, and Bon had come down, too. And what used to happen was, me and Malcolm would get together and get a drum kit, and Malcolm would get behind the drums sometimes, and I’d get on the guitar and just tap out a riff. Or other times, Malcolm would get on the guit...
