Listen To New EYEHATEGOD Song ‘Circle Of Nerves’

New Orleans disciples of hardcore, blues-based, post-amplified audio wreckage EYEHATEGOD have released “Circle Of Nerves”, the latest single from their first new full-length album in seven years, “A History Of Nomadic Behavior”, due on March 12 via Century Media Records. Singer Mike IX Williams said: “‘Circle Of Nerves’ is the last single before the release of our new album, ‘A History Of Nomadic Behavior’. This track is a prime example of the lowest form of abstract crossover trash to crawl out of the methadone clinic basement. We can’t wait to play these songs live in filthy venues, where the real noise comes to life.” “A History Of Nomadic Behavior” was produced by EYEHATEGOD, Sanford Parker (YOB, VOIVOD) and ...

Wolfgang Van Halen Performs ‘Distance’ on the Today Show

Wolfgang Van Halen appeared on the TODAY show to talk about his upcoming Mammoth WVH solo debut, featuring “Distance,” the single that’s a tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen.  Asked about the lyrics — “No matter what the distance is, I will be with you /  No matter what the distance is, you’ll be okay” — he said, “It’s almost a mantra for you when you lose someone that’s important to you. As a parent or really anyone that plays a large role in your life,” Wolfgang said. “That’s my mantra when I think about my dad.” He also performed the song, which you can see below. Eddie Van Halen passed away in October 2020 after a long battle with cancer. But he was very much aware of his son’s musical accomplishments. “I’m so thankful that my father was able to listen to and enjoy th...

My Morning Jacket’s Patrick Hallahan on New Cooking Show, Food-Themed Songs

As Patrick Hallahan calls up SPIN, the My Morning Jacket drummer is gearing up for a full-blown blizzard — 12 to 18 inches of snow are expected in his current home of Louisville, Kentucky within 24 hours. And where many Americans would devolve into a panic after a day without takeout, this dude’s prepared — with a fully stocked kitchen and the culinary skills to make good use of it. But one core message from his new cooking show, In the Kitchen With Patrick Hallahan, is that interesting dishes (and, by association, memories) are tucked away in our cupboards and rarely visited fridge drawers. We just have to seek them out — and, for the novices among us, embrace the unknown. “The biggest lesson to learn in life really is to push past the fear and challenge yourself to do some...

The National’s Matt Berninger Shares New Song “Let It Be”: Stream

Last year, The National’s Matt Berninger released his debut solo album Serpentine Prison. The record was delivered to streaming services with 10 songs, but fans who scooped the limited-edition double vinyl LP were treated to an additional six bonus tracks. Now, Berninger is giving everyone the opportunity to hear those extra cuts, starting with an original tune called “Let It Be”. Next month, the indie-rock veteran will include the bonus tracks in a proper deluxe edition of Serpentine Prison, which will be available both digitally and physically. The extra goodies include “Let It Be”, another original song, and four covers of tracks by Eddie Floyd, Morphine, Bettye Swan, and The Velvet Underground. Like the majority of the album, “Let It Be” is a soft and gentle track that moves at a ...

Serj Tankian’s life as an activist and musician is captured in the new documentary, Truth to Power. The film also uses archival video to tell Tankian’s story of activism, while also touching on the origins and highlights of System of a Down’s career. Interspersed are newly shot scenes that include the singer visiting his old high school in Hollywood and voyaging to Armenia during a revolutio...

Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats Announce Guest-Heavy UNLOCKED 1.5 Remix EP

Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats famously only took 24 hours to put together their collaborative EP, UNLOCKED. In the year since, they’ve put a bit more time into recreating the eight-track effort as the guest-heavy reimagining UNLOCKED 1.5. Due out February 26th, UNLOCKED 1.5 is described as “a brand new release inspired by Denzel and Kenny’s original.” Remixes of the tracks are presented by the likes of The Alchemist, Jay Versace, GODMODE, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, with new features coming from recent Artist of the Month Arlo Parks, Joey Bada$$, Benny the Butcher, Kenny Mason, and more. That fighting-sty...

Netflix’s I Care a Lot Is a Brutal Indictment of the American HealthCare System: Review

The Pitch: Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike) cares a lot. She’s the legal guardian of dozens of elderly people who desperately need her help. This “care” comes in the form of decision making powers regarding her client’s finances and medical treatment. With a simple doctor’s recommendation and signature from a judge, she essentially has the legal right to decimate the lives and accumulated wealth of anyone who falls into her trap. But Marla’s newest client, Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest), is more than she seems and may end up causing the conniving entrepreneur’s downfall. Writer/director J Blakeson’s new Netflix film is a black comedy that feels infuriatingly familiar given the rampant authoritarian greed and hypocrisy we see daily. Dressed up as a stylish thriller, I Care a Lot is a brutal ...

Faithless Remain Blessed

In a decade since their last studio album, The Dance, renowned UK dance artists Faithless reemerged in 2020 with All Blessed, their seventh studio album and first project without their talismanic frontman Maxi Jazz, whose focus has shifted to the band he has since formed; Maxi Jazz & the E-Type Boys. Sister Bliss and Rollo Armstrong produced All Blessed. The absence of Jazz obviously sets All Blessed apart from previous Faithless records. However, it gives way for a more vocally collaborative experience, featuring multiple guest vocals from spoken word poet Suli Breaks and singer-songwriter Nathan Ball. Other collaborations include Caleb Femi, L.S.K, Gaika, Jazzie B, and Damien Jurado. Their lead single from All Blessed, “Synthesizer” (featuring Nathan Ball) serves as an ode to their p...

Marilyn Manson Abuse Accusations Being Investigated by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

Marilyn Manson is being investigated by the Special Victims Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for domestic violence allegations against him. They are looking into incidents that occurred between 2009 and 2011, when Manson lived in a rented loft in West Hollywood, ABC News confirmed. The names of the victims were not released, but at least nine women have come forward after actress Evan Rachel Wood went public with claims that former boyfriend Manson, born Brian Warner, had “horrifically abused” her for years. In the 2009-11 time frame, Manson resided in a rented loft on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood while working on his Born Villian album, which was released in 2012. Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco came forward with abuse allegations, claiming she was “co...

Dinosaur Jr’s Green Mind Turns 30

There’s a valid reason why Dinosaur Jr.’s most allegiant fans allude to Green Mind as frontman J Mascis’ inaugural solo offering: He not only produced the band’s 1991 major label debut but arranged all 10 songs, and tracked all of the vocals, every guitar lick, and — having unceremoniously booted a detached Lou Barlow — each bassline. What’s more, he handled the drums on all but three of Green Mind’s tracks. Not surprisingly, Mascis doesn’t see it the same way. “People say that, but it’s not really” a solo album, “because that wasn’t the intention,” Mascis explains, speaking to SPIN about the revered rock record, released 30 years ago today. “The drum parts, I had written for [longtime Dinosaur Jr.] drummer Murph. I wrote in his style. I wrote what I thought Murph would play. I would have ...

The Extraordinary Harper Lee

When I was growing up, interesting young female protagonists were thin on the ground, especially ones who looked and thought and sounded like me. Enter Scout Finch, disheveled, scrappy and precocious, she leapt off the page and into my heart, compliments of Nelle Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird was published in 1960. Instantly successful, it won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and would go on to become the classic of American Literature, selling thirty million copies. So far. A staple of high school English classes, despite its dark adult themes of domestic violence, racism, and rape, To Kill a Mockingbird continues to sell about a million copies per year. Lee grew up in a small, southern town, the child of an attorney father and a distant mother who struggled with mental illness. Lee’s r...
