In an expansive Elle cover story, FKA twigs elaborated further about her experience with former partner and Honey Boy co-star Shia LaBeouf, who she sued for sexual battery, assault and abuse in December 2020. In a Zoom interview from her London home, the singer said that “It’s a miracle I came out alive.” Continuing, Twigs described the events of Valentine’s Day 2019 when she said that she woke up to LaBeouf with his hands around her neck, “beginning to strangle her” in a hotel. The next day, she said that he drove erratically, speeding and demanding she “profess her love for him.” The singer says that escaping the relationship was down to “luck,” telling the magazine, “I honestly wish I could say that I found some strength and I saw this light. I wish I could say, ‘[It is] ...
Since the White Stripes released their greatest hits collection last year, they’ve steadily shared previously unseen live clips of their classic songs. The latest to be unearthed from their archives is a set that they recorded for Sky Arts’ From the Basement. It took place at London’s Maida Vale Studios in November 2005, a few months following the release of Get Behind Me Satan. The take was captured by Radiohead and R.E.M. producer Nigel Godrich and award-winning video director Sophie Muller. It was originally broadcast in 2007 as part of the series’ pilot episode and this is the first time the set has been shown in its entirety. “The dream of From The Basement is to capture great performances with the most direct and beautiful coverage possible,” Godrich explained in ...
How we got here is complicated. Separate from the effort to improve how much songwriters are paid from streaming is the challenge of even receiving the money at all. It’s been well known that streaming services were stockpiling unpaid royalties, and over the years that money continued to accrue with little recourse other than costly lawsuits that didn’t solve the underlying problem and threatened the growth we needed in a post Napster world. For over a decade experts have estimated, debated and debunked theories about how much was being held. Spotify, Apple, Amazon and others have long said they employed exhaustive searches for copyright owners. There have been congressional oversight hearings, studies done by the U.S. Copyright Office and industry experts, however the magni...
Back Number have never written a song for another artist before, and Shimizu shared in a press release that his exchange with BTS — in particular Jungkook, who suggested a new melody based on the demo Shimizu sent — was an exciting experience. “I had some reservations because I’d never written a song that someone else besides myself would sing,” Shimizu said. “But I’m happy that we’ve completed a very lyrical, yet powerful track thanks to our experienced staff, our co-arranger UTA’s efforts, some exciting exchanges with Jungkook, and the personal qualities and power of expression each of the BTS members have.” Previously, BTS’s “Don’t Leave Me” was featured as the theme of the Japanese TV drama Signal, a remake of a South Korean series by the same name, starring Kentaro Sakaguc...

The lyrics to the song — co-written by Rivera, Maluma, Muñoz, Édgar Barrera, and Vicente Barco — express a relationship worth salvaging: “Though it’s said that nothing bad lasts 100 years, I wouldn’t want to be the first idiot to be the exception / A love like ours doesn’t come along every day, a love like ours is worth saving.” The original music video, which features Rivera and the Colombian star, currently has over 48 million views. In listening to Swedish producer/composer/sound designer Catharina Jaunviksna’s (a.k.a Badlands) new upcoming album, it’s impossible not to notice that the music embodies all the ethereal qualities of its title Djinn—defined as “spirit”. Inspired by her mother’s mysterious and tragic passing, Djinn pays homage to the darkness it was born from, and the light found within the resilience, sorrow and spirituality of letting go. The result is a stunning, delicately composed collection, paying homage to Badlands’ electro, post-punk and new wave influences, and in the end, something fresh, new and all her own. She explains: “I spent every night in the studio, making dark repetitive beats. It was almost as if I was in a trance, channeling something” Jaunviksna says. “But as time went by, lif...

When Elder Scrolls Online launched back in 2014, there were a lot of doubts about how the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) would survive in a world where even the most established games in the genre were struggling to keep an engaged player base. But 7 years, 1 major game-wide revamp, 5 chapter expansions, and 16 DLCs later, ESO is still going strong while many of its competitors are wrapping up their content or implementing new gimmicks to lure back old players. Part of ESO’s appeal is its connection to the Elder Scrolls universe that millions of gamers already know and love thanks to games like Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion, while its lack of a monthly subscription or level requirements make it a much more friendly option for casual players. Of course, that’s aid...
