QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor has urged fellow Britons to get the COVID-19 vaccine, saying those who choose to not receive the shot should not “expect the services” of United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS). Earlier today (Saturday, February 13), the 71-year-old musician took to his Instagram to write: “As they become available, everyone should have a vaccine. Those who refuse to have a vaccine and subsequently become ill from Covid, thereby putting other lives at risk, cannot expect the services of the glorious and under pressure NHS. PLEASE have a vaccine.” According to BBC News, more than 14 million people in the U.K. have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A quarter of U.K. adults have already received one dose, including around nine in 10...
LAMB OF GOD bassist John Campbell has commented on the ongoing impeachment trial of Donald Trump, saying that holding America’s 45th president accountable for inciting a violent insurrection is an opportunity to address the fact that the country was in part founded on white supremacy. After another Twitter user apparently reacted to news reports that House Democrats began wrapping up their impeachment case against Trump on Saturday, writing, “We cannot speed past the reality that armed white supremacists broke into the Capitol to zero out the overwhelming vote of Black people across the country to get a white supremacist out of office”, Campbell chimed in, writing: “This is our chance to address that the US was founded on white supremacy. I hope we don’t squan...
Legendary guitarist Steve Vai recently sat down for an interview with Cassius Morris on “The Cassius Morris Show”. You can now watch the chat below. Speaking about his current and upcoming projects, the 60-year-old Vai, who recently underwent trigger finger surgery, said: “I always had this desire to one day just do an acoustic record — just me playing acoustic guitar and singing; nothing virtuostic [sic]. There’s a certain melody DNA that I have that whenever I come across a song idea that falls into that category, I kind of put it on the shelf under a different category. And I had a whole bunch of these, and I said, ‘Okay, now it’s time to make this acoustic vocal record with these songs.’ So, that’s what I’m working on. But I also ha...
Florida death metallers CANNIBAL CORPSE will release their 15th studio album, “Violence Unimagined”, on April 16 via Metal Blade Records. Rita Ora and Imanbek have teamed up for a massive, dance-heavy EP, Bang, featuring collaborations with David Guetta, Gunna, and KHEA. Rita Ora’s first long-form offering since her 2018 album, Phoenix, does not disappoint. From the outset, the EP’s opener, “Big,” seeks to make a decisive statement with flashy lyrics and an even sleeker club bassline polished by David Guetta and Imanbek. The club energy continues onto the next record, “Bang Bang” which particularly highlights shining vocals from Rita Ora on the lovestruck single. Meanwhile, “Mood” stands out as a bit of a wildcard, but shows Rita Ora’s versatility as she weaves effortlessly between soulful delivery and quick cutting rap as she trades verses with Argentinia...
Aluna addresses the challenges of making her most recent record, Renaissance, head-on in an illuminating new mini-documentary released on YouTube. The “Envious” songstress said deciding to start the project was both a daunting task and an ideal opportunity at the same time. Knowing that she would be owning every aspect of the music-making process, Aluna felt a weight of responsibility. At the same time, however, that same premise would allow her the freedom to explore and rediscover the dance music genres she’d grown up listening to. A month after committing to take the leap, however, Aluna faced a life-changing discovery. “When I decided to make the record it felt scary and exciting, but I was ready. Then, I think it was about a month in, I fo...

After facing scrutiny last weekend for playing a track featuring Morgan Wallen during a Super Bowl afterparty, Diplo has apologized. Following the conclusion of Super Bowl LV, Diplo caused a stir by dropping his 2020 collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “Heartless,” during his performance. The song appeared on Diplo’s debut country album effort, Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil. However, the producer has since addressed it, stating he did not intend to make a political statement and that the song had been a part of his set prior to the country star’s controversy. Morgan Wallen was infamously cut from his record label earlier this month after video surfaced from TMZ of the country singer using racial slurs. Following the revelations, Jason Isbell,...
In our new music feature Origins, artists are tasked with letting fans behind the curtain of their latest single. Today, The Aubreys reveal how they found “Sand in My Bed”. Celebrities, they’re just like us — even in a pandemic. Plans put on hold, friends kept at a digital distance, milestones left uncelebrated, things we’ve all experienced over the last year regardless of our notoriety. Finn Wolfhard’s summer 2020 should have been spent promoting Ghostbusters: Afterlife, reveling in his high school graduation, or jamming with drummer Malcolm Craig in their new project The Aubreys. The band had only been around for a few months following the dissolution of Calpurnia in the fall of 2019. They’d released their debut Soda & Pie EP in March, and then like the rest of us, found th...
Taylor Swift’s plan to re-record all of her older music is officially underway, as evidenced by the announcement of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) a few days ago. A project this ambitious has never before happened with a pop star of her caliber, and it has led to questions regarding her eligibility at upcoming Grammy ceremonies. Could these records, most of which received nominations in the past, again find themselves in contention? Well, the answer is yes — kind of. “Current eligibility guidelines would allow for the new performances and albums to be eligible if they were recorded within the last five years,” explained a spokesperson for the Recording Academy. “However, none of the older songs would be eligible for songwriting awards.” That statement is simultaneously clear and confusin...

Multiculturalism asks us to acknowledge and embrace the diversity within our own communities. Most of us try to live out that idea, recognizing that others experience the world (even the same community) differently than us and draw from different sources and traditions to cope with the daily challenges that we all face. That’s the crux of “Obeah”, the latest song by hip-hop artist and 2019 Polaris Prize winner Haviah Mighty, who our own Wren Graves describes as “one o...
