The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame traditionally announces its annual slate of nominees in October and narrows it down to a set of official inductees in December. But like just about everything else, the Rock Hall’s schedule was disrupted last year by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the May induction ceremony concert delayed and downsized to a taped HBO special that aired in November. But this week, the gatekeepers in Cleveland finally announced the slate of 16 acts that will be narrowed down later this year to the five or seven artists who encompass the Class of 2021: Mary J. In an appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show to promote Medicine at Midnight, the Foo Fighters reacted to the news of the day, namely their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination and the Phoebe Bridgers “guitar gate” incident on Saturday Night Live. The online battle between the young singer and David Crosby (a 1997 Rock Hall inductee) got heated, and SPIN reported on the retorts, which included Croz calling Bridgers “Pathetic” and Bridgers replying “little bitch” to the elder statesman. Dave Grohl supported the young singer’s decision to smash her guitar during her Saturday Night Live appearance last weekend. “I saw that performance man, I actually talked to my mom about it. ‘Did you see Saturday Night Live?’ [she asked]. “I said, ‘Yeah!’ She goes, ‘What did you think of t...
Bruce Springsteen was arrested last November for DWI, reckless driving and publicly consuming alcohol, officials confirmed to SPIN. On Nov. 14, law enforcement apprehended Springsteen at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. “Springsteen was cooperative throughout the process,” Gateway spokesperson Brenda Ling told SPIN in a statement. TMZ was first to report on Springsteen’s arrest. This is the first time Springsteen has been arrested for DWI and is set to appear in court in the next few weeks. Reps for Springsteen didn’t immediately respond to SPIN’s request for comment on the incident. Last weekend, Springsteen made his first-ever appearance in an ad, appearing in a Super Bowl commercial for Jeep. He also appeared at Joe Biden’s inauguration concert, performing...
Dee Snider has completed recording vocals for his upcoming solo album, tentatively due later this year via Napalm Records. On Tuesday (February 9), the TWISTED SISTER frontman took to his Twitter to write: “FINISHED! Completed vocals on a (brutal) 13th track for my next album today with @jameyjasta at the helm! Due to Covid I’m not sure when @NapalmRecords will be releasing this record, but we are hard at work with overdubs and such and will have it ready in a matter of weeks!” Snider‘s next solo album will be the follow-up to “For The Love Of Metal”, which was released in July 2018 via Napalm Records. That effort, which was produced by HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta, featured contributions from Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Mark Morton (LAMB OF G...
BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT, the band launched by ex-CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho, will release an EP, “Paint The Sky With Blood”, on April 23 via Napalm Records. The effort was recorded in Finland back in 2020 and was meant to be the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Sadly, that chapter ended far too soon with the December 29 passing of Laiho, and now, the three-track piece embodies a whole new meaning. “Paint The Sky With Blood” is an overwhelming tribute to an outstanding artist and an exceptional sonic heritage, and, at the same time, a modern homage to the genre itself. A storm of raging guitars and blaring drums merge with Laiho‘s versatile vocal power, leading into a heavy attack — title track “Paint The Sky With Blood” – op...
Matthew Kiichi Heafy, the Japanese-American musician best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist for the Grammy-nominated heavy metal band TRIVIUM, has just released more solo material. This time, he offers his creative take on a popular and enduring sea shanty. The three-track “Wellerman” bundle is available today on all streaming platforms. Listen to and get it here. “I didn’t pick ‘Wellerman’ as a cover to do something ‘viral,'” Heafy says. “It was one of those songs — when you hear it, ‘it sounds like something Matt Heafy would cover.’ It was suggested by a close pal who thought exactly that.” The bundle features three versions of the famous whaling song “Soon May The Wellerman Come”, which originated...
KISS frontman Paul Stanley has mourned the passing of Mary Wilson, saying that he spoke to her only days earlier. THE SUPREMES co-founder died Monday (February 8). She was 76. Wilson “passed away suddenly” at her Henderson, Nevada home, the singer’s longtime friend and publicist Jay Schwartz said in a statement. No cause of death was given. Late Monday night, Paul tweeted: “OMG! Mary Wilson of THE SUPREMES has died suddenly. I was just on a Zoom call with her Wednesday for about an hour & never could have imagined this. So full of life & great stories. Absolutely shocked. Rest In Supreme Peace Mary.” In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock conducted on Tuesday, Stanley said about Wilson‘s death: “It shows how fragile life is. She was vib...
