Primus’ Les Claypool Shares Western Short Film Featuring Metallica’s Robert Trujilio: Watch

Primus mastermind Les Claypool has shared a western short film that he stars in alongside Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. Entitled Precious Metals, it was directed by Claypool’s son, Cage Claypool, and is essentially an avant-garde ad for Claypool’s EMG pickups. The five-and-a-half-minute video begins with shots of the 57-year-old funk metal icon rooting around in the desert with a metal detector while dressed as a cowboy. After digging up some old bullet shells, he gleefully finds what he’s looking for: his shiny, Pachyderm Gold EMG bass pickups. However, like all old-school Westerns, an outlaw always shows up at an inconvenient time. Just as Claypool finds his treasure, Trujilio appears behind him, decked out in quintessential bad-guy gear and with a gun in hand. S...

Rock Hall of Fame 2021 Nominations: The Snubs, Surprises, and Long Shots

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame traditionally announces its annual slate of nominees in October and narrows it down to a set of official inductees in December. But like just about everything else, the Rock Hall’s schedule was disrupted last year by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the May induction ceremony concert delayed and downsized to a taped HBO special that aired in November. But this week, the gatekeepers in Cleveland finally announced the slate of 16 acts that will be narrowed down later this year to the five or seven artists who encompass the Class of 2021: Mary J. Dave Grohl Defends Phoebe Bridgers’ SNL Guitar Smash

In an appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show to promote Medicine at Midnight, the Foo Fighters reacted to the news of the day, namely their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination and the Phoebe Bridgers “guitar gate” incident on Saturday Night Live. The online battle between the young singer and David Crosby (a 1997 Rock Hall inductee) got heated, and SPIN reported on the retorts, which included Croz calling Bridgers “Pathetic” and Bridgers replying “little bitch” to the elder statesman. Dave Grohl supported the young singer’s decision to smash her guitar during her Saturday Night Live appearance last weekend. “I saw that performance man, I actually talked to my mom about it. ‘Did you see Saturday Night Live?’ [she asked]. “I said, ‘Yeah!’ She goes, ‘What did you think of t...

Bruce Springsteen Was Arrested for DWI in New Jersey Last November

Bruce Springsteen was arrested last November for DWI, reckless driving and publicly consuming alcohol, officials confirmed to SPIN. On Nov. 14, law enforcement apprehended Springsteen at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey. “Springsteen was cooperative throughout the process,” Gateway spokesperson Brenda Ling told SPIN in a statement. TMZ was first to report on Springsteen’s arrest. This is the first time Springsteen has been arrested for DWI and is set to appear in court in the next few weeks. Reps for Springsteen didn’t immediately respond to SPIN’s request for comment on the incident. Last weekend, Springsteen made his first-ever appearance in an ad, appearing in a Super Bowl commercial for Jeep. He also appeared at Joe Biden’s inauguration concert, performing...

Lil Baby Hilariously Does the #JunebugChallenge w/ Meek Mill & Michael Rubin

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Lil Baby was spotted at the Super Bowl LV over the weekend doing the #JunebugChallenge on TikTok with some of his famous friends.   The video is quite comical, featuring an oddly coordinated group crowded around the rapper in a blatant attempt to go viral on the popular platform.  As soon as SpotemGottem’s “Beatbox” drops, the group, featuring Meek Mill and Philadelphia 76ers owner Michael Rubin, awkwardly jolted their arms up and down reminiscent of the choreography in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video. Meek transitioned into a version of the Millie Rock towards the end before the video cuts off.   It’s clear from another post on Rubin’s Instagram page that they were hanging out in an owner’s box at Raymond James Stadium.  A v...

Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige Nominated To 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Source: Robert Kamau / Getty The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released its nominee list for the 2021 induction ceremony and it’s loaded with familiar names for Hip-Hop heads. Some of the most notable nominees include Jay-Z, LL Cool J and Mary J. Blige as well Dionne Warwick and Chaka Khan. The rest of the 16 total nominees are rounded out by Fela Kuti, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, the Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Carole King, New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Rage Against the Machine. How are some of these acts not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already, though? But if you want to get technical, Tina Turner is already in there with her former partner Ike Turner. Also, this is LL Cool J’s fifth time being nominated—and we’re going to take anything but his induction as disrespect. ...

Political Acrobatic Op Van Jones Says He Felt “Ambushed” By ‘The View’ Interview

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty CNN pundit Van Jones is sharing his thoughts on the now-viral interview he had with The View, namely co-host Sunny Hostin. As previously reported, on Friday (Feb 5) Van Jones was a guest on The View, and things did not go well for him. The CNN political analyst got called out for hip flip-flopping opinions of Donald Trump, and it was quite entertaining for those tired of his tap-dancing antics on national television. “There are those who really accuse you of being an opportunist, a chameleon, so to speak, who provided a racial cover for former disgraced, twice-impeached, President Trump … People in the black community don’t trust you anymore. What is your response?” Hostin asked him before fellow co-host Ana Navarro followed up by saying: “You’ve lost a lot of ...

Jay-Z & Nipsey Hussle Collab Featured In ‘Judas And The Black Messiah’ Trailer

Source: Glen Wilson / Warner Bros. Pictures As if we already needed more reason to support Judas And The Black Messiah, now we learn that the film will feature the highly anticipated Nipsey Hussle and Jay-Z collaboration, “What It Feels Like.” In the latest trailer to the Shaka King-directed biopic about assassinated Black Panther leader Fred Hampton, the new cut finds both Nipsey and Jay spitting some Black power inspired content with Hova dropping spiritual bars like “Black stones on my neck, y’all can’t kill Christ/Black Messiah is what I feel like/Sh*t ain’t gonna stop cause y’all spill blood/We gon’ turn up even more since y’all killed cuz.” Jay-Z also references his verse on “Murder To Excellence,” off his Watch The Throne collaborate album with Kanye West, when he name-checked Hampt...

DEE SNIDER Completes Recording Vocals For New Solo Album

Dee Snider has completed recording vocals for his upcoming solo album, tentatively due later this year via Napalm Records. On Tuesday (February 9), the TWISTED SISTER frontman took to his Twitter to write: “FINISHED! Completed vocals on a (brutal) 13th track for my next album today with @jameyjasta at the helm! Due to Covid I’m not sure when @NapalmRecords will be releasing this record, but we are hard at work with overdubs and such and will have it ready in a matter of weeks!” Snider‘s next solo album will be the follow-up to “For The Love Of Metal”, which was released in July 2018 via Napalm Records. That effort, which was produced by HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta, featured contributions from Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Mark Morton (LAMB OF G...

ALEXI LAIHO’s First And Final Recordings With BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT To Be Released In April

BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT, the band launched by ex-CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho, will release an EP, “Paint The Sky With Blood”, on April 23 via Napalm Records. The effort was recorded in Finland back in 2020 and was meant to be the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Sadly, that chapter ended far too soon with the December 29 passing of Laiho, and now, the three-track piece embodies a whole new meaning. “Paint The Sky With Blood” is an overwhelming tribute to an outstanding artist and an exceptional sonic heritage, and, at the same time, a modern homage to the genre itself. A storm of raging guitars and blaring drums merge with Laiho‘s versatile vocal power, leading into a heavy attack — title track “Paint The Sky With Blood” – op...

TRIVIUM’s MATT HEAFY Releases ‘Wellerman’ 3-Track Bundle

Matthew Kiichi Heafy, the Japanese-American musician best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist for the Grammy-nominated heavy metal band TRIVIUM, has just released more solo material. This time, he offers his creative take on a popular and enduring sea shanty. The three-track “Wellerman” bundle is available today on all streaming platforms. Listen to and get it here. “I didn’t pick ‘Wellerman’ as a cover to do something ‘viral,'” Heafy says. “It was one of those songs — when you hear it, ‘it sounds like something Matt Heafy would cover.’ It was suggested by a close pal who thought exactly that.” The bundle features three versions of the famous whaling song “Soon May The Wellerman Come”, which originated...
