DJ Spinderella Wants Apology Before Considering Salt-N-Pepa Reunion

Source: Al Pereira / Getty DJ Spinderella continues to publicly express disappointment in the way her former bandmates omitted her from the Salt-N-Pepa biopic that aired last month. While the film was well-received in the Hip-Hop community, the frustrated DJ is adamant her legacy was erased from the story, causing even deeper damage to the already fragile relationship within the group.  “The relationship is over,” Sandra “Spinderella” Roper tells Billboard about the falling out with Salt-N-Pepa’s Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton. Launching a reunion project following the film’s premiere would have been the perfect opportunity to reconnect with fans, but that won’t happen unless there’s a grand gesture of reconciliation. “The only way something like that would happen is if ...

Power to the People: Amanda Gorman Honored Pandemic Heroes During Super Bowl LIV

Source: Rob Carr / Getty Super Bowl LIV‘s performers are being championed for “setting the tone” of the highly anticipated showdown and among those who graced the stage, was 22-year old Amanda Gorman. On Sunday (Feb 7), the world watched the battle of the titans go down as the Tampa Bay Buccanneers faced off against the seemingly unstoppable Kansas City Cheifs but it was the artistry of the performers that stole the show, including Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman, who once again made history as the first person to ever perform an original poem during the game, chose to share her spotlight with the hard workers on the frontline of the pandemic. “Poetry at the Super Bowl is a feat for art and our country because it means we’re thinking imaginatively about human connection even when we feel silo...

Drake’s OVO Air Force 1’s Get Teased On Social Media

Source: NOCTA / NIke For a second there it seemed like adidas was able to pull off one of their biggest coups when Drake was seemingly waving goodbye to Nike and making his way to the three stripe brand. Ultimately Drizzy thought better of it and remained an ambassador for the Swoosh and eventually dropped his own NOCTA collection which sold out in seconds. Now we’ve gotten a sneak peak at his long rumored OVO x Air Force 1 collaboration and the color itself might be enough to make this a hot commodity. Teased by Mark Robinson a.k.a. OVO Mark, we got a closeup look at the heel tab which features an “OVO” stitched under the “Nike” emblem and an light purple hue leather covering the classic silhouette. Man, these are kinda butter. Whether or not these joints will see a general release or rem...

Ghost Tapes #10 – GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT

RATING: 9/10 While there are signs suggesting that the ravaging pandemic might be behind us before too long, it’s indisputable that suffering, both physically and psychologically, has been intense and enduring for many. Some would say it’s cringeworthy to describe a band as being able to provide a soundtrack for hope during perilous times, but for those aware of how moving and impactful music can be, the notion isn’t outlandish at all. GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT is one such band capable of moving mountains, in the mind’s eye of the diehard fanbase, anyway. And the legendary post-rock band’s 10th full-length album, “Ghost Tapes #10”, delivers an impressive artistic outpouring offering potentially inspiring sounds . The quartet has been fearless and bold mu...

MIKE PORTNOY: Why Now Was The Right Time To Resurrect LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT

LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, the instrumental progressive rock/metal project featuring DREAM THEATER keyboardist Jordan Rudess and guitarist John Petrucci, alongside ex-DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy and progressive rock icon Tony Levin (bass) of KING CRIMSON and PETER GABRIEL fame, will release its third album, “LTE3”, on March 26 via InsideOut Music. The effort will arrive 22 years after the release of 1999’s “Liquid Tension Experiment 2”. Speaking about why now was the right time to resurrect LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, Portnoy told Revolver: “The main reason is the insanity of 2020. The pandemic and the lockdown is pretty much what allowed it. But we’ve been talking about it for many, many years. It’s been 10 years since I left DREAM THE...

AUGUST BURNS RED Drops Reimagined Version Of ‘Extinct By Instinct’

AUGUST BURNS RED has dropped a reimagined version of “Extinct By Instinct”. The original version with vocals and lyrics appears on 2020’s “Guardians” album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Music Albums, Rock Albums and the Vinyl Albums charts upon release. This version of the song has been stripped down and re-envisioned by the band. Asked who AUGUST BURNS RED‘s “guardians” are, vocalist Jake Luhrs told Revolver: “For the band, our guardians would be our fans. When you think of guardians, they help, right? Or they nurture or they provide. Our fans definitely do that for us. When we’re coming out with a new record, they’re buying actual copies or they’re getting all the vinyl. They come to all of our shows....

Foo Fighters Play ‘Waiting on a War’ on Fallon; Dave Grohl Talks Recording With David Bowie

Celebrating their 10th album and 25th anniversary the Foo Fighters performed on Monday’s (Feb. 8) The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with frontman Dave Grohl chatting with Fallon before the band dove into “Waiting On A War,” from the newly-released Medicine at Midnight. “We started recording this record mid-2019. We were like ‘2020 is gonna be the best year our band has ever had.’ So let’s make a party record,’” Grohl told host Jimmy Fallon. Then, well, you know. “We sat on it. Let’s wait, and see if things go back to ‘normal.’ Then they were like, ‘dude, let’s go, let’s give it to the people.’” The frontman discussed the vibe of Medicine at Midnight, stressing the album’s “grooves. It’s hard to call it a dance record,” he quipped. “If you put the word ‘dance’ with the ...

X Release Two B-Sides From Last Year’s Alphabetland

In a year of chaos, one of the best things that happened was when L.A. punk veterans X surprise-released a new album with their original members. Alphabetland was the ripping album we needed in the early pandemic days and thankfully, a few new tunes from those sessions have emerged. On Tuesday morning, X revealed B-sides “True Love, Pt. 3” and “Strange Life,” with the latter song featuring none other than the Doors’ Robby Krieger on slide guitar. “Robby came down on our last day in the studio and played on ‘Strange Life’. How fitting and how wondrous! And can there ever be enough ‘True Love’?” Exene Cervenka said in a statement. “Writing this reminds me of how much fun it was being in the studio with Rob Schnapf. He is a great producer and really helped make Alphabetland&nbs...

BTS Will Bring Their ‘Dynamite’ Energy To MTV Unplugged

BTS are no strangers to iconic MTV performances. Last August at the VMAs, they virtually spanned the globe for a neon-centric rendition of No. 1 hit “Dynamite,” making the event a suit-and-tie affair as they moved through its three minutes of disco-pop. Their latest venture with MTV promises to be a little more stripped-down, but equally iconic. That’s because few performances are more iconic than MTV Unplugged. On Tuesday, February 23, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook will bring their collective energy to an update of the storied series straight from Seoul, South Korea. MTV Unplugged Presents: BTS airs that night at 9 p.m. ET, and you won’t want to miss it. The special promises to bring fans a new look at the group’s latest album, Be, which dropp...

Now, the K-Pop superstars are cementing their place in western history by filming a “special edition” of MTV Unplugged, where they will join the ranks of iconic musicians like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Ms. Lauryn Hill. MTV Unplugged Presents: BTS was filmed in “intimate settings” in Seoul, South Korea. For the TV special, the newly minted 2020 Band of the Year will play live renditions of songs from their latest album BE (Essential Edition) — like the smash hits “Dynamite” and “Life Goes On” — as well as never-before-seen versions of their career-defining hits. MTV has promised that the worldwide music event will “build off the iconi...
